It has been more than a week since word spread that ESPN is about to lay off some prominent "SportsCenter" anchors and other TV personalities. The fear and uncertainty has set off a "panic of biblical proportions" among ESPN on-air talent, a source told Sporting News.
During the last round of layoffs in 2015, ESPN pink-slipped more than 300 production staffers. They were the behind-the-scenes directors, producers and back-office personnel who never appeared on-air.
Things will be a lot different this time. It won't be Suzy in accounting losing her job.

Max Kellerman is just dreadful. He’s as naive as a 9 yr old.
Try being a former niner fan for 5 plus decades and watch a fake QB become a BLMer, and his young thug owners back him up!
Puts these 6 figure plus former jocks with a two digit IQ into reality!
I once heard one of the more profound after-game reporters comment:
At the end of the day, the Lakers won the game because they scored more points than the Sixers.
“Is that right, champ?”
Actually, the former jocks take these things in stride. They’ve had to make adjustments before.
Guys like Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless are quaking.
Try being a former niner fan...”
The only reason we watch the Texans and Green Bay is because we hope they continue to be smart enough to not alienate their fans and because their coaches are not jerks. If either allow the same thing to occur that you have gone through with the 49’ers, we’ll stop watching, have a public burning of our jerseys and send the ashes to the owners.
I suspect that the NFL is going to self-destruct down the road if they don’t change the way they do business.
Boomer Sooner! This may be hard to believe but OU is my second favorite college football team. I try to watch them every time they are on. Although our rivalry was heated, it was always respectful. Some of the most memorable games I saw were 84, 86, and 87 which were all in Lincoln while I was a student. I also went to the ‘88 game in Norman when we finally got a win. I will be there when Oklahoma comes to Lincoln on 9/18/2021. I will have to hear that dang song again though....
We love our football here in Nebraska. Our social life in the fall revolves around game day. We haven’t been relevant for a while but hope springs eternal.
Glad to hear your grandson is playing. It is a great game. My favorite nephew played 4 years and coached for 2 years at a small college here in southeast Nebraska. It had a great effect on him and he is doing really well for himself now. I think that experience made a good man of him.
Grandson is one of three sophomore’s on the JV team and is wide receiver. Only gets in for 2-3 plays per game but that’s more than some of the juniors. Didn’t start playing until this year-ran track with AAU team. His father started playing when he was nine. We lived in Kansas and it was YMCA football until 10th grade. Huge highly competitive sport up there. All the boys either played or “collected butterflies” and all the girls cheered. Dad went on to play college football until he tore his hamstring and retired from the sport.
His dad and I went to grandson’s first game. At the end he said, “How did you stand going to all those games all those years, particularly when I didn’t play the whole game?” Just laughed at him.
You should go to the Texas State fair on the day OU plays the tea sips from the University of Texas. Lots of Boomer Sooners there. Stadium just rocks. Didn’t realize there are so many different things you can wear with cowboy boots.
I went to school with Dan Patrick (his real last name is Pugh.). He was a year ahead of me in school. We sat next to each other in study hall a couple of years. He was SO funny; he would always tease me (in a nice way) I think he was voted Class Clown”?? He was a good basketball player for our dear “Mason Comets”, back in the day. LOL! Nice family. His mother just recently passed away.
I believe Greenie has taken a radio job in NY.
You ought to read the Twitter feeds of some of their people.
Hopefully he will stick with it. I’ve been there with the little playing time but being persistent paid off. I have zero athletic talent but worked in the weight room and learned the game and that paid off.
I’ve definitely sat through some games where my nephews didn’t get in but it means a lot to be there. My dad used to yell at me from the stands. He was so loud, it was embarrassing.
I would have a hard time going to the Red River Shootout (I refuse to use the PC name) I hate the Texas Longhorns with every fiber of my being. I joke with my counterparts at work that are in Ft Worth that the walls of hell are covered with burnt orange wallpaper. I can’t let that go even though NU is in the Big 10 now. I also hate Colorado and K State. It is hard to let go of that well cultivated and long standing hate. My wife jokes that I need to develop some hatred for some Big 10 teams. I tell her it takes time to develop a good hate. It will come in time though I am sure.
I would celebrate if ESPN axed Neil Everett. His lame attempt at being humorous is juvenile and tiresome.
I used to tune in to sportscenter to see sports highlights. Now every time I tune in I see some black woman talking about Colin Kaepernick.
Colin Cowherd was right. The reason why the on air ESPN announcers are free to criticize the NBA for resting their players is because management gave them the go-ahead. It all starts from the top. Nothing happens there by accident.
