It has been more than a week since word spread that ESPN is about to lay off some prominent "SportsCenter" anchors and other TV personalities. The fear and uncertainty has set off a "panic of biblical proportions" among ESPN on-air talent, a source told Sporting News.

During the last round of layoffs in 2015, ESPN pink-slipped more than 300 production staffers. They were the behind-the-scenes directors, producers and back-office personnel who never appeared on-air.

Things will be a lot different this time. It won't be Suzy in accounting losing her job.

If these people are so talented, what are they worried about?

Very few people work 45 years at the same place and retire with a gold watch anymore. That went away for most Americans years ago.

Welcome to the club, and go find a J. O. B.

When I cut the cord and Spectrum’s (used to be Time Warner) customer reps and retention specialists ask why I’m cancelling service, it will be because of the extortion of ESPN, nothing else. Let me unbundle and choose which stations I want, you’ll keep me as a customer.

I thought The Bible would be something ESPN would ban as offensive to their clientele.

Sorry but I have lost most interest, in big time sports.

Stuff like violent wife beating thugs for superstars, and Krappernick disrespecting my country, without a peep from owners, or broadcaster pushed me that far.

To get me back, it takes something impressive.

“George Carlin, in about 1971? “

More like Don Meredith before he took the Monday nite gig. He took a job as a local sportscaster in Dallas. The baseball scores were what got him fired....red

ESPN stopped being a sports channel decades ago.
They’ve been Fake News and politics since then.

A lot of them are Affirmative Action types hired at inflated salaries to make ESPN diversity commitment look good.

Street-cred embarrassing stereotypical, politically correct personalities seem more like sitcom characters than sports commentators. Not much demand for those types.

Looming ESPN layoffs sparked 'panic of biblical proportions.'

Was there 'weeping there, and gnashing of teeth?' Good.

Most of their time should be scores, clips with captions and standings with no announcer or commentary. On second thought, I can get that on my phone.

In the entertainment industry, insulting your audience is not a successful business model.

The NFL is about to learn this lesson, too.

In my ling gone TV production days, there was a jerk cheapskate tech manager over my department that would have gone to illegals if he had a chance.

Never mind that he also made big bucks working freelance with ESPN and probably still does. Any peon in his view deserves only peanuts.

Wonder what would happen if they just show the game with the local commentators. Get rid of all the bimbos doing the sideline commentary and all the network announcers. If they did that we MIGHT consider watching.

Dan Patrick is grinning somewhere. He made the right choice when he left the mother ship and started his own TV/Radio program. He keeps politics to an absolute bare minimum. Plus he's got that 'Wall of Morale" thing goin' on which is a plus ;o)

If they didn’t trash America, Trump and the Trump voters, I might watch again.
