Rock legends The Who on Monday announced a residency in Las Vegas, putting off retirement as they wind down what they called a final tour.

Caesars Palace, one of the landmarks of Sin City, said that The Who will begin playing at the hotel on July 29.

The residency will initially be only six shows, although a statement described it as a “first run.”

"Saw them at Desert Trip last October at Indio/Cochella."

Was it a good show?

The Countdown begins: How many hours will pass before someone reporter comes up with a question that ends with The Who bashing President Trump? I say 72 hours or less.

From what I understand, Roger Daltry certainly will not do so. Townsend, however, child porn connoisseur, probably would.

I just saw a special of their concert in Hyde Park a couple years ago. Amazing body of music, and they still sound great. Between songs they were interviewing Roger and Pete. Townsend said he’s tired of touring and some people suggested they rent a theater and play nightly to smaller crowds. He basically said are you kidding, do you know how exhausting this is? Why would I want to do it every night? Maybe he changed his mind. It does make sense if they still want to play but not tour. Let people come to them.

Were it not for the coordinated 100 yard screen behind them it would have been ordinary classic rock.

Plus we got to know the millenials in the crowd over the three days.

They were definitely into it.

I think at some point in the future, classic rock will become classical music.

In its own way.

I recall back in the early eighties, the “earth shattering” event that was hyped as The Who’s last concert EVER at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. It was televised across the country and we packed bars everywhere to watch it. Then mere months later it was ..well, maybe we’ll tour again...and here they are three decades later!

Until tonight, I did not know a lot of Daltrey’s history. He is a very interesting fellow!

Agreed!

So how did the Who perform? Was the sound good? Energy on stage? Can they still sing?

I'm trying to learn if they're worth seeing in Vegas.

I was at Desert Trip also. I thought they were outstanding. Sadly, that was the one night I left my earplugs in the hotel room. Which weekend were you there? We were there the first weekend. A friend got some amazing seats. Best concert ever!

“Somehow I don’t think these shows are going to resemble the Isle of Wight 1970 show.”
I saw them at Anaheim Stadium in 1970 and it was the best concert I ever saw. Hands down.

i don’t bet either one of them would bash Trump. I’d bet they both like him.

At some point these performances take on almost a religious aura.

The music is ingrained, familiar and associated with distant memories for the average FR member.

The entire Desert Trip, there was no lack of quality or musicianship, except for Bob Dylan who basically is a poet.

The other acts: McCartney, Stones, Neil Young, The Who and Roger Waters(Pink Floyd) were excellent.

As a bonus, we only paid 30% of face value of tickets to attend. There are always early purchasers who can't go.

Shouldn’t that be “Who(’s) left?”. They’re in their seventies, FGS! I know we are all still around 20 in our heads (proving the existence of an immortal soul, by the way, but that’s a different subject), but look in the freaking mirror! We’re old! Go rest up for the journey home and possible “Ah hah!” to the mystery.

Roger Daltrey was a big supporter of Brexit and actively campaigned for it.
