Help? ;)
Stay the course... DO NOT GIVE UP!
I’ve been fighting them for a little over 5 years.
Get your COMPLETE service records
and when they arrive sort through them. I’ve been waiting over 6 years now for my “corrected DD214
to be sent.
...AND the DAV group is the way to go.
Hire or Find a third party group that specializes in getting better benefits .
The Advocator Group comes to mind but there are a few of these groups .
They know the paperwork system .
What state?
Call your state A VA office. Advocacy groups help, some better than others, and some advocates are better than others. A quick phone call is a great filter.
I applied my “filter” in my local area search and enjoyed a logical and professional conversation with a particular advovate. A few calls to different groups will clarify what I mean. DAV, AMVETS, AMERICAN LEGION...etc... mist have reps at state VA HQ’s. Ensure they are phyically represented at the state VA HQ’S level... that helps.
In AZ the state VA is very helpfull. Highly recommended. Talk to them.
Many cities also have a department of veterans affairs in the mayor’s office that can help... Jax, Fl is one.
AmVets or someone who specializes in this sort of work.
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) specializes in getting disabled American veterans their disability benefits as well as employment, and Disabled American Veterans is staffed by disabled American veterans. It is not a social club or local private water hole. Hope the message is getting across.
Thank you so much to everyone responding. I’ve made a list and I think I know which way to head.
Always good to have folks in the know posting infobytes. I never applied for disability as most of my “ailments” (I’m 64 and not on any regular medication) were of the normal wear and tear sort as an active person goes through life w/o kicking the bucket - so I am not intimately aware of the programs/orgs that help disabled Vets - although I have been known to contribute to the DAV folks which, like so many other organizations should not be required if we would take proper care of our vets instead of making them public charity cases - here’s hoping Trump manages to get it turned around.
I can speak for Texas. When applying for a concealed carry, Texas runs your name through the VA. If you have PTSD you will not be approved.
Double, triple and quad check the paperwork. Talk to as many experts as you can and even seek out advice from those that have been through it with the VA/SSA. You will most likely be rejected on the first pass. Don’t wait or delay - get a lawyer. It is all part of the big game that is played - unfortunately. Be persistent and stick with it. A guy that used to work for me went through the same thing and it took a lawyer to get it done.

ha Another source of puzzlement for me. Why, since the VA is a federal program, would their rules vary from state to state? The longer I age the less I understand.
Thank you for your Service and Sacrifices.

I have reread your statement a few times, and a light bulb suddenly came on. It’s the State of Texas that rejects your application. Dang.
You’re welcome :)
Yup. The rejection due to PTSD can occur at the state level. I also suspect VA rejection at the federal level could affect someone applying for federal law enforcement/security forces, too.
