Is Racism Why Adele Beat Beyoncé At The Grammys? (according to CNN of course it is!)

Even Adele thinks Beyoncé should have won the album of the year Grammy over her.

When the British pop star tearfully accepted the ceremony's top award Sunday night, she shined a spotlight on the woman she said she has loved since she was 11 years old.

"The artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album to me, the 'Lemonade' album, was just so monumental," Adele said.

Certainly for her diehard fan base known as the Beyhive -- and for many music critics -- Beyoncé's "Lemonade" was a creative masterpiece.

But with its racial themes and imagery, some are questioning if the project was "just too black" for Grammy voters.

Kevin Powell, author of the memoir "The Education of Kevin Powell" and a forthcoming biography on rapper Tupac Shakur, thinks so.

He told CNN "Beyonce's 'Lemonade' made a lot of people uncomfortable, because it is so political, so spiritual, so unapologetically black, and so brutally honest about love, self-love, trust, betrayal."

"We are still a nation that does not want to deal so directly with truth," said Powell, who has written about music and race for various publications, including Vibe magazine. "Adele's album is strong, but it is just songs about love. It is safe and uncontroversial; it breaks no new ground. And neither do Grammy voters, generally speaking, when it comes to picking winners of this particular award."

Adele and Beyoncé were both nominated for song of the year, record of the year and album of the year.

Adele swept all three.

Beyoncé's "Lemonade" won for best urban contemporary album. Her hit "Formation" won for best music video.

#GrammysSoWhite became a thing on Twitter Sunday night. One user noted -- incorrectly -- that a person of color "hasn't won [album of the year] in almost 20 years!"

Beyoncé’s racism was on display in her album and public appearances..... So, yes, her own racism hurt her popularity.

Beyoncé is such a corporate tool that it isn't funny. She is very carefully marketed by an army of record company executives. If this "Lemonade" was political and radical, it was the type of safe, establishment Liberal "radicalism" that infests pretty much every album that record industry executives want to roll out and market as "edgy." With her nine figure bank account and multi-millionaire lifestyle, Beyoncé is about as edgy as a butter knife.

It’s finally out. The entertainment industry is ground
zero for racism.

“...it breaks no new ground. And neither do Grammy voters, generally speaking, when it comes to picking winners of this particular award.”

So they don’t generally pick “groundbreaking” material for this particular award, including this year. What’s that got to do with race?

Of course it is. It has all the earmarks. A black person didn’t get exactly what they wanted.

I think so, too. Beyonce showed her stuff when she did a gig at some football game with her troupe, all raising their fists, etc. Give it a rest, Beyoncé. Too bad Kanye wasn’t there to grab the prize off Adele and give it to you, while insulting Adele.

When she first came on the US music scene, oddly enough on SNL the same night as Sarah Palin, I really liked her. Nice, smokey voice, very humble persona, she knew what she was and where she came from. I guess her voice hasn’t changed but her subject matter has and she’s no longer humble. She dove right into US political controversy on the side of the left, very surprising from someone who credited her initial, meteoric rise to having been on SNL when Sarah Palin was. She’s lost me, I don’t care what she does.

That’s not to say that I’m a fan of Beyoncé at all. She’s even worse, but less disappointing because she never was all that sympathetic as far as I’m concerned.

Let the fools wrestle with themselves over who and what is racist, that’s fine. Pigs wrestle in slop, it’s just what they do.

Bouncy’s records never even make the charts and Adele tops them, end of story.

LOL. That’s hilarious. The music and her dancing matched perfectly. Do they have Grammys for music video editing? If they do whoever made that deserves it.

I’m not surprised. If racism can win you the Super Bowl it is a pretty powerful force. Adele beating Beyonce should be a piece of cake.

Adele has a great voice. Too bad she’s talked herself into being a victim of guilt.

1) Anyone not in the industry who cares about the Grammy is a ninny.

2) Maybe the folks who choose the winners are racists. What is that to me?

3) Is there anybody under 30 who pays for recorded music?
