The Scarecrow isn't a scarecrow, but he is introduced in a crucifixion pose. The tin man isn't The Tin Man, either, but he is the result of a horrifying, Frankenstein-style experiment. The lions aren't cowardly--the citizens of Oz speak of them as if they'll tear your throat out. The Munchkins have swapped out dandy fashions for tribal facepaint. The Wicked Witch Of The West runs a brothel. Welcome to Emerald City, the dark reimagining of L. Frank Baum's Oz stories that debuts on NBC after a nearly three-and-a-half-year trek down the yellow-brick development road.

Rotten Tomatoes ain’t exactly right wing and they gave it only 39 percent.
The idiot viewers of course gave it 61 percent.
That’s our future. I hope they learn a lot the next 8 years and unlearn a lot of the past 8.
I watched around a half hour then turned to something else.
It was too dark both figuratively and literally. Also seemed to just go all over the place as a story.
yep, let the gang in Hollywood touch something with their filthy hands and they can convert it into filth. Nuke the entire place from orbit and salt the earth beneath it. Inhuman savages.
So, Dorothy is now an Illegal from Mexico living in Kansas?
Bomb. It will BOMB.
What I can’t understand is that these BOMBS are often so obviously BOMBS from the start so why do they bother making them?
Dorothy is now hispanic: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5245722/?ref_=tt_cl_t1
Yep. Lots of angsty paranoid characters running around, and what’s with the weird hand-signal style of “magic” in recent productions (like this one?!).
“The idiot viewers of course gave it 61 percent.”
The highest grossing movies these days seem to be just IMAX versions of DC and Marvel comic books. That says a lot about the viewers.
They did the same thing, in my opinion, to the stage show, WICKED. Of course, the wicked witch really wasn’t bad.. she was just misunderstood and discriminated against because SHE IS GREEN. Who are the bad guys? THE WHITE GUYS.. of course. Throw in the environmental subplot and it was probably one of the worst shows I’ve seen. There is only one good song, the rest is mediocre. When that musical first opened on Broadway, it got bad reviews. But they marketed it to LITTLE GIRLS. The day I went, (I was visiting New York and I paid a lot of money for a good seat). There was a mother sitting next to me with her two little girls, all dressed up to see a Broadway show like I used to do when I was a little girl and my Dad would take me to see shows. (I was lucky to have seen some of the best shows with the best performers of all time). By intermission, the family was gone. The sets were beautiful the costumes were beautiful, but it was a dark, boring show. I left before it ended. The guy at the door asked me how I liked the show.. I told him exactly what I thought, in fact, I tried to return the WICKED shirt I had bought before the show started. They wouldn’t take it back. THAT’s how much I hated it.
Another remake. How original.
I think they are vanity productions; in other words, money-men in high places just hand out production money to keep their friends and favorites employed. They don’t care if it bombs; producers, actors, grips (?) make-up artists etc. etc. get paid, make some money. “Who cares if it bombs? I made a salary for six months thanks to my friend...” I figured this out a long time ago. It’s like that recent film that was pro-gun control. They knew it wouldn’t make its money back, but lots of Hollywood film people got employed to make it. I guess you have to have the right kind of friends.
Someday somebody up top is going to say ‘no more’ but I guess that time has not yet come.
No black dudes in the Emerald City, apparently.
Didn’t even turn it on. Than God for the remote.
He’s the Wiz? Wow, I watched about the first 2/3 of it last night and never realized that.
Yes it does.
The days of “All About Eve”, “Citizen Kane” and “Casablanca” are mostly behind us.
I’m 48 but you can’t beat those shows.
Even the old “Robin Hood” to the nonsense that’s come out over the past 30 years. No comparison.
Got the Entire collection of Marx Brothers movies for Christmas :)
***The idiot viewers of course gave it 61 percent.****
It’s like dangling cheap beads in front of the natives.
