Doing something dangerous for a reason is...reasonable. Doing it just to show you are willing to do something dangerous is stupid.

Bad reason...thrills, chills, adventure.
Selfish to kill yourself and leave loved ones hanging over something stupid like bungee jumps and skydiving. Yes, I consider that “extreme” and thus stupid.
