Secretary of State John Kerry delcared Wednesday that Israel "can either be Jewish or democratic" but "it cannot be both."
Here's a transcript:
"The truth is that trends on the ground, violence, terrorism, settlement expansion and the seemingly endless occupation, they are combining to destroy hopes for peace on both sides and increasingly cementing any reversible -- an irreversible one state reality that most people do not actually want.
Today, there are a similar number of Jews and Palestinians living between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea. They have a choice. They can choose to live together in one state or they can separate into two states. But here is a fundamental reality. If the choice is one state, Israel can either be Jewish or democratic. It cannot be both. And it won't ever really be at peace.
Moreover, the Palestinians will never fully realize their vast potential in a homeland of their own with a one state solution."

It isn’t for the US to say. Kerry is meddling I thought he claimed in Vietnam that the US shouldn’t meddle? I thought all liberals claim that.

US needs to make a HUGE statement, US out of UN, UN out of US, and then US embassy moved to Jerusalem!!!!! That should tell the world WE are BACK!!!! DON’T MESS WITH THE US!!!!!! I believe Trump has the brass knuckles to do this!!!!
He does think Israel can be Jewish and democratic.
But he thinks that without a separate state for Palestinians, Muslims will become a majority and Israeli Jews will have to choose whether their state will continue to be democratic or continue to be Jewish.
That's nothing different from what many Israelis have been saying for years.
Taking out the condition "if the choice is one state" distorts the meaning of what he was saying.
Don’t conflate American Jews with Israelis. You would likely be surprised at how many American Jews are more dedicated to Leftist politics than they are to Israel. If they see Israel defending its current borders as rightwing and Palestinians as people of the Left then they will make their choice accordingly.

Well, given that the State of Israel was recognized by the UN as a "homeland" for the Jewish people, and that the founders of the State of Israel declared it was a Jewish State (though not exclusively so,) Kerry is far more qualified to declare what Israel is allowed to be. You see, he was in the Viet Nam war (before he came back defaming the veterans and treating with the enemy!)

John and Barry clearly support the expulsion of Jews from their homes, on land they've lived on for millenia, to satisfy Arab demands. Then he projects Arab genocidal practices on Israel. This has to be the most outrageous comment I’ve heard from an administration in years. So let’s turn this around. An Arab Islamic country can’t be both Arab Islamic and democratic. So has this ultimatum been given to Saudi Arabia? Take your pick from the list of Arab Islamic Sharia loving dictatorships. Israel is far from these. A democracy which allows its Jewish identity to survive and thrive in the midst of Sharia loving Arab populations hoping and working for the Jews demise.

Jews are a majority within Israel and the disputed territories, including Gaza, which it has no desire to control. Arab opoulation growth rates are decreasing, while Israeli Jews have more than 3 children per woman. The only way Jews become a minority, is if you include the so called exiled Palestinians living in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon....
