I went back and checked the Wikipedia list from where I got my list. And there they were
John Glenn Dec 8
and Greg Lake Dec 7.
I don’t know HOW I could have missed them
I didn’t care for “Watership Down” that much, but I loved “Traveller,” his book about Robert E. Lee’s favorite horse.
Loved this book..
I thought it was about submarines and would be exciting.
It wasn't and it wasn't.
LOVED the Plague Dogs, probably more than Watership Down. Maybe time to re-read these as it’s been at LEAST 30 years.
“Watership Down” was one of the great books of the human condition told thru rabbits and was, if intentional or not, a searing and focused indictment of totalitarianism everywhere.
Years later after reading the book and watching the movie (one of the few movies I ever purchased with multiple copies), I still catch myself blurting out phrases like “For Frith’s Sake” or the term ‘ausla’ to refer to the bodyguards of a leader.
Three years ago, I was at the park walking my borzoi Juneau, and we saw a rabbit in the distance. I released her off the leash and like a lightning bolt she coursed the rabbit down. She caught the poor rabbit and broke its back. When I caught up to her, she was smiling at her catch, and I was beaming with my eyes watering because I saw a beautiful animal do what she was born to do and I was so proud of her. The rabbit was still breathing but broken and probably in pain, and I didn’t know what to do as I never thought she’d actually catch the rabbit or squirrel. I looped the leash around the rabbit’s neck and tightened and in half a minute the little chest stopped moving. Then my eyes watered for a different reason, for the death of the bunny.
I remember right at that instant I blurted out “My heart has joined the Thousand, for my friend stopped running today.”
It looked at Juneau...she was one of the thousand.
Must read book and popular with Kirk conservatives.
It is really a book for adults, but an excellent story for teenagers too.
Nobody gets out alive....
My cat kills rabbits, too. He eats their heads off, because the brains have the highest concentration of nutrients and trace elements.
Phyllis Schlafly, back in September.
Ditto. Gave me much joy and I think about it often when I see the little animals in the woods behind our house.
Watch out for the hrududus...
It’s a classic novel. And no, it’s not about submarines. Message for IronJack: read the back copy before buying.
It has a Deus ex Machina ending, thank God. Otherwise, I would have given up on existence!
They drive so fast around our cul-de-sac...
I hate seeing so many animals run over around here. People are careless, many under the influence, and some even try to hit animals.
So who is the “animal” in this case.... :-(
That was a really good book. In fact, we named our cat “Fiver” after one of the rabbits back in 1976. RIP Richard Adams - and Fiver.
I think I deserve credit for hacking my way through that drivel. It's one of very few books in my life that I've given away. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.
I'd sooner read a phone book.
That book was freaking AWESOME!
