Bummer, as this reminds me that my event horizon continues to relentlessly approach too.

Every time I see a rabbit, I think of “Prince with a thousand enemies”.

Aww! He was a great writer. RIP Mr. Adams, I loved your critters! ‘Shardik’ was also an excellent story.

I thought "Watership Down" was one of the most boring, childish books I ever read. And I read it as a child.

Still, I'll give credit where it's due. The man had a large and loyal following.

I adored him when I was a kid. Still own at least six of his books. I think Shardik was his masterpiece, however.

As a struggling writer, I also take heart from the fact that he didn’t get a publishing deal until he was 52.

I recommend to our southern members and history fans the magnificent “Traveller” about Robert E. Lee’s valiant war horse and the Plague Dogs about the horrors of vivisection. If we believe in research like this (and I have in the past) then we must know its horrors...sadly.

A very great writer, nonetheless.

It’s not a children’s book. Who gave it to you? And it’s not childish in the least. Quite the opposite!

Wonderful storyteller ..I’ve enjoyed reading his books.

I managed a little bookshop in the summer Watership Down was published. We reordered it over and over. It was a much loved book.

Godspeed, Mr. Adams.

As an adult I cried when I got to this part (spoiler alert) “Black Rabbit: Hazel... Hazel... you know me, don't you? Hazel: I don't know. [the apparition reveals himself to be the Black Rabbit, and Hazel gasps] Hazel: Yes, my lord. I know you. Black Rabbit: I've come to ask if you'd like to join my Owsla. We shall be glad to have you, and I know you'd like it. You've been feeling tired, haven't you? If you're ready, we might go along now. [Hazel looks at all the younger rabbits of Watership Down] Black Rabbit: You needn't worry about them. They'll be all right, and thousands like them. If you come along now, I'll show you what I mean.” ― Richard Adams, Watership Down
