A “Marxist” “collectivist” “worker-run” restaurant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, closed its doors this week after customers complained that they could no longer tolerate the bizarre hours, high prices and long lines.

Did the Starnes kids, who failed at running the fictional 20th Century Motor Company in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged after their old man died, decide to start a restaurant?

Classic example in literature of epic failure of socialism. A real-life example is Venezuela. An oil rich country taken down the tubes in a few short years by Chavez and his mini-me, Maduro, trying to make socialism work. Now people are so desperate, women are selling their hair in neighboring Columbia for grocery money.

Good or bad, sometimes life just intervenes to correct the balance of nature.

Capitalism leads to lower prices and better products and service? Who would have guessed?

Should have invested in a sandwich making machine, to cut down on preparation time.

lack of protein equal lack of energy and increased depression. both great if your goal is to fail at whatever you are doing.

The video where they have a primal scream therapy session around the stump of an old growth tree captures them in a nutshell.

And I mean Nut-shell!

Even if I could afford it all the time that's not my idea of a good meal. Ribeye steak with a baked potato, a salad and a real yeast dinner roll sounds like my idea of a good meal. Man I just made myself hungry...lol

My observation is that liberal run businesses are the most slow and inefficient there are. There is a coffee shop near where I live, and it is run by a bunch of liberals (by appearance and what they have posted on their walls)

They are well staffed, have a boatload of people, but they simply cannot get out of their own way.

I cannot go in there anymore.

Sounds like our soon-to-be-ex president.

But the restaurant’s business model, which did not allow for bosses or managers, promised a “living wage” to all employees and a strong union, did not allow the restaurant to make enough profit to stay in business.

excuse me? can ANYBODY explain to me just exactly WHY these commie suckholes would need a union in the first place???

I would've thought that long lines of people willing to pay high prices would be good for business.

I’m no vegan but I eat lunch at the vegan place near my office once a week. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and the service is excellent. They wear their politics on their sleeve of course but I don’t care.

I lived in a town that had a truly superb vegetarian-only Indian restaurant.
They listed all the carbs, proteins, and fats next to each menu item.
Tasty food, friendly service, fair service, and no annoying vegetarian commentary from anyone or the staff.
I am similarly *not* a vegan or vegetarian, yet totally LOVED that place.

I have similarly encountered some of these hipster-run establishments in my lifetime, too.
Posted hours of 9:00 am - 7:00 pm and arrive at 6:50 pm to find doors locked, lights off, and no cars remaining in parking lot.

Called owner/manager next day to share why I would never return.
Other potential patrons apparently felt the same because place was shuttered within a year of my experience.
