If youre looking for a healthy snack, nuts might be the answer.
A new study from European researchers in the journal BMC Medicine says eating a handful of nuts a day can cut down on several health risks.
Data from more than 800,000 people who ate all kinds of nuts, including hazelnuts, walnuts and peanuts, shows they cut their risk of dying from heart disease by nearly 30 percent and cancer by 15 percent.
The risk of premature death was also 22 percent lower for people who ate nuts.
Its quite a substantial effect for such a small amount of food, study co-author Dagfinn Aune said.
Even though some nuts are high in fat they also have lots of fiber and protein, and may reduce a persons risk of obesity over time.
Well, nuts grow on tree branches, while peanuts grow underground in the plant root system. That should be the first clue that something is up. As others have noted, peanuts are in the bean (legume) family.

I eat almond butter all the time. Never eat peanut butter.
.
Exactomundo. I'm also allergic to tree nuts: Almonds, walnuts, pecans, Brazil nuts, cashews.
Peanuts are classified as a legume (i.e. the bean family).
.
Have you ever observed the tremendous structural similarity between peanuts and cashews?
.
This is good news! I keep a large jar filled with walnuts and dried cranberries on my kitchen counter and I eat a handful or two every day.
Finally I am doing something right!
They are legumes, not nuts. Just ask the squirrels. They don’t get enough nutrition from peanuts.
What other beans grow underground?
The health food folks offer several types.
Europeans really seem to love their hazelnuts.
Very odd, nuts makes your wife’s face break out. Orange juice makes mine break out.
.
Peanuts share nothing structural with legumes.
Could be an arbitrary classification. Legumes grow on the upper structure of the plant, just as nuts do.
.
Very Keto
Oh! Nuts! Excellent! You know what I love? How there’s two nuts named after people. Hazel and Filbert.
Black eyed peas
Green beans
Lima beans
Red beans
Indeed, the similarty to cashews and other nuts is so great that they actually put the name “nut” into “peanut”. And yes, it is not lost on me that legumes, like nuts, grow above ground, whereas peanuts do not.
Clearly, it is a mystery wrapped in a riddle, surrounded by an enigma. I think George Washington Carver knew this.
I guess it’s just a DNA thing
I generally have a bit of date walnut cake for lunch, from our local Co-op. Tastes great, and good for you too.
I would add that pea-nut contains the name of a legume (”pea”) as well as the name “nut”. The mystery deepens.
.
LOL!
