Woman said she stabbed boyfriend after letting him drink her blood

A 19-year-old woman from Springfield is accused of stabbing her boyfriend after she let him cut her arm and suck her blood. After he did that, the woman told police, she and the man, whom she described as drunk, got in an incoherent argument that preceded her stabbing him several times. She also told a detective that she thinks she has the capacity to become a serial killer.

Victoria Vanatter was charged on Thanksgiving with second-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action after being arrested the previous day at a home in Springfield. Vanatter is in the Greene County jail in lieu of a $150,000 bond.

A Springfield police officer was dispatched to the home shortly after 1 p.m. after a crying woman told a 9-1-1 call-taker that someone was bleeding. The first officer on the scene knocked but a bleeding man would not let him inside, told the officer that he didn’t need help, and slammed the door. The officer could hear a woman inside the home, and tried to force his way through the door. That’s when Vanatter opened the door, according to the probable cause statement used as the basis of the charges against her.

The officer saw Vanatter also was covered in blood. After making sure no one else was in the house, the officer noticed a heart written in blood on the living room wall and an “I’m sorry” message with a heart on the kitchen counter that also was written in blood.

Other officers arrived but the man wouldn’t tell them what happened; they described him as uncooperative. He had an open wound on the front and back of his left shoulder, a bleeding cut on his lower back, and a cross drawn in blood on his chest. He said all his injuries “were self inflicted because he was upset at Vanatter,” according to the probable cause statement.

Vanatter had a cut on her forearm, which she said was caused by the man. She told officers that the cut was “consensual” because she and her boyfriend “had been talking about vampires and (he) wanted to suck someone’s blood. Vanatter said she told (him) he could suck her blood and he cut her forearm with a box cutter razor and drank her blood in the kitchen. “

An argument ensued, according to the probable cause statement. Vanatter told officers that the man struck her several times so “she became disoriented and her ears started to ring. Vanatter admitted she punched (him) in the face with an open hand to get him to stop.” The argument continued but “Vanatter could not say what they were arguing about but said that neither one of them made sense.”

She said she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her boyfriend in the back. After losing that knife, she said she grabbed a second knife and stabbed him in the front of his shoulder. “Vanatter said she stabbed (him) the third time and then ‘came to’ and realized (he) was hurt bad,” so she called 9-1-1.

A Springfield police detective wrote that Vanatter told an officer that “she believed she needs to go to jail.” After being treated at a hospital for her injuries, that’s where she went. The next day, she talked to the detective and said again she let the man cut her forearm so he could drink her blood.

“Vanatter admitted to being a cutter and enjoyed drinking her own blood. Vanatter said (her boyfriend) was intoxicated and they were arguing with each other,” according to the probable cause statement. That led to the physical fight and the stabbings. She told the officer that she realized he needed to go to a hospital but said she at first tried to keep the man from leaving because she didn’t want to go to jail. She said she stabbed him “until he was able to get the knife away from her.”

Vanatter told the detective that she called 9-1-1 but her boyfriend grabbed the phone from her, but a call must have gone through since an officer soon arrived. She told the detective that she was the one who drew the heart and message in blood.

“Vanatter admitted to me that she was a threat to society and we need to take her seriously. Vanatter also mentioned that she believed she could be a serial killer in the future,” the detective wrote.

A prosecutor wrote in his request for the $150,000 bond that Vanatter was already on probation after being convicted on two assault cases – one in Vernon County for two counts of second-degree assault and one in Boone County for second-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He also said Springfield police arrested her last Oct. 11 for unlawful use of a weapon.

“The Defendant’s history of convictions for violent assaultive crimes demonstrates that she is an ongoing danger to the community,” wrote Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Wyatt Dameron.
