Without a strong basis in maths and hard sciences, our kids won’t be able to compete.....

Go Team USA! Education back to the States!

It’s amazing, though, how difficult it is to get the business to qualify what they actually want. But that’s why we “get the big bucks”.

You said it better than me.

I gave up at the third paragraph. Life is too short to read drivel like this. Get this person some help or just lock her up and forget the help..

You have to love coding to do it. If you don’t, it will eat you alive. You have to get excited about learning new things because they are coming whether you like it or not.

You have to love what you do to succeed in any field. Coding is different both because of the necessary interface between people and machines, and the ever increasing pace of change. This makes for a volatile mix.

I would love to see both a foreign language and a computer language as requirements for a HS degree because of the flexibility and discipline instilled in the mind. Language and math were required when I was in HS, it could happen again.

“”I don’t have a clue as to why I read that dissembling drivel but, I made it to the end.””

You did better than I did...I’m not even going to second guess what I might have missed by not reading the whole thing.

That was a good, no, excellent explanation, and good examples. You write like you were Army staff, to the point and clear. AF fly boys only talk about planes, Navy guys meander all over, and Marines can’t write. That was a joke for my Marine buddies but there is a point there somewhere.

We should spare no expense til everyone is above average and everyone has above average education and income.

I laugh! I agree with your sentiments and sadly, it seems a great number of people agree with us. I laugh!

No, things should be made correctly so the users...customers who paid for it...don’t have to screw around cause the product they bought was rushed to market or made improperly.

No, users and customers don't demand it and will not pay for it. So obviously what we have is a system that allocates resources according to demand, and that took us to the moon. Argue with that.

I agree; not a bad idea at all. My children have languages starting in grammar school, but it is very shoddy; they don’t learn much because the teachers don’t know much...

Compare the quality of tech products to cars.

Some people drive new, expensive cars. Some drive old beaters. Some can’t afford a car and go by bike or walk.

When the government forced cars to add seat belts, air bags, catalytic converters and other things the cost of cars went up. Fewer people could afford cars. People who could not afford cars could not get to work and lost their jobs. As a person who has found many jobs for low skilled, low wage workers, I have personal experience with this.

In tech, Bill Gates never had the best technology, never the best OS, never the best word processor or spreadsheet. But he invented the best capitalist marketing system that made computers cheap and accessible to low income people. Bill Gates capitalist marketing system turned entire 3rd world countries into 1st world countries by producing products of low quality with a lot of bugs.

Well, that is often the case, Chief. FReeper’s don’t reply for a variety of reasons. You write well and made a cogent argument so you did your part. I replied with the Twitter version, your reply was much more nuanced.

I know where she is coming from. She is a liberal suffering from profound cognitive dissonance. There comes a times when reasonable and itelligent people need to make a choice to ignore the delusions of popular culture, or ignore reality. She decided to ignore reality and is suffering for it.
