I need prayers for myself.
My wife got upset at something someone at church said. Yeah, I know, old story. This is in addition to a litany of other complaints she has that boils down to "I don't have any friends" and "I'm angry and jealous towards people who have things I want that I don't have." As you can imagine, those two are related.
She is refusing to go to our church. While I could (and did consider) putting my foot down on the issue, I believe it would've done more harm than good to our marriage. Sometimes people need to learn things the hard way for themselves by experience.
Still, I had to walk away from some low level leadership positions and a lot of friends. My friends aren't letting it come between our friendships, but it's still bitter for me and disappointing for a church that placed trust in me.
I'm trying really hard to not adopt a position of throwing my wife under the bus, but it's hard not to. She's brought all of this upon us.
I'm tired and emotionally drained from all this. Pray for my emotional healing and for my wife's instruction, that she would learn the things she needs to learn. For that matter, also that I'd learn the things I need to learn.
Also, for my (soon to be former) church. The church itself is struggling in many ways, and I love the people there. Breaks my heart to see what's going on. Breaks it more to leave the battle for reasons I have almost no control over.
Just say NO to Charismatic churches. They are based on nothing but emotion & fakery.
My mother joined a Pentecostal church over 20 years ago & I curse the day she found that church. Being Pentecostal has changed her from a fun-loving woman to a bitter, angry, judgemenal, irrational, holier-than-thou individual.
Her church is mostly a social club, complete with the loud rock-style band & colorful lights. No tradition or reverence whatsoever.
Pentecostalism consists of emotion & hysteria, not truth. Churches aren’t supposed to be “loud”.
Divorce is always and forever the last answer in any marriage. I always have said I do not believe in divorce. If I had to live on the West Coast with my wife living on the East Coast, that is what I would do.
Now, coming up on forty three years with the infirmities of aging, all of our parents dead, our daughter and her family halfway across the country, I am ever more certain of my convictions.
Demonic is right.
God hates divorce and divorce is not the answer in God’s economy.
That, along with the abusive solution for manipulating women, shows beyond the shadow of a doubt that this crap that he’s advocating is demonic as all get out.

I learned Divorce Rape by experience. I do not want to control any woman , nor do I want a woman controlling me. My now deceased wife live happily together for 34 years without either trying to control the other. She had her thing. I had my thing. We had our thing. We each went out of our way to please the other.If she had tried to control me, I would have left. If I had tried to control her, she would have walked. Slaves and animals are controlled, not equals.

Don’t worry about me, I am not buying into it. I think I got the answer to my question early on. I know now where that person is coming from, and I don’t agree with or endorse it.
There are plenty of places in life where we are going to be forced into an adversarial relationships filled with anger and manipulation, but if that is what you think love is, then you are lost.
I like what I have in love. It isn’t perfect, but anyone who thinks it is going to be perfect is deluding themselves. I prefer a two-way street based on mutual respect, and that isn’t what that poster is selling.
I didn’t see the point in coming on a thread like this, to preach that. But it is Jim Robinson’s forum, not mine, and he makes the rules, so I abide by them.

She sounds depressed. She needs a counselor - a Christian one if possible.
It’s a phase but one that has to be handled by a professional. You can’t fix it beyond telling her you are sorry she is so unhappy and that things will be better. (this, too, shall pass). Pray for her. When she says she has no friends - tell her she has you and you are the best friend she could ever want. Tell her there is no reason she should not have friends except she’s so unhappy right now (depressed). When she cuts herself down, you tell her something beautiful about herself. You are her supporter.
At times like this in life it’s like the devil has you by the head. He’s probably telling her she’s unworthy; nagging the you know what out of her about herself. She has to step back and see and reject the negative ‘self talk’. Get behind me Satan in the name of Jesus! She should confess all sins and errors to Jesus that is thrown in her face. Once she does, it’s forgiven and off of her.
I will be praying for her and you.
Prayers for you, your wife, your church and friends. May His will be done.
