A Thanksgiving Alone, But Not Alone

Posted on 11/24/2016 4:12:24 PM PST by dirtboy

Normally I would go to my only relative I talk to in the area, my cousin, but he's down in Williamsburg on vacation. So I am home alone, made a modest Thanksgiving dinner with a New Braunsfels smoked chicken (yum!), mashed potatoes, dressing and peas. I had a co-worker invite me over to his house if I wanted to, but I politely declined - I like the guy, he is a fellow Trump supporter in my department. But I am really not alone. I have all my FReeper buds keeping me company this holiday. And for that I give thanks.

That quote is a real keeper.

I just found out that it is from Oscar Wilde. I encountered the quote in a John MacDonald book, where it was attributed to Gian Gravina.

I spent the day in solitude as well, and rather enjoyed it, actually.

Got several chores done, watched a bit of HS football, a plate of ricotta-stuffed shells instead of turkey, and a couple chocolate cherries for dessert.

Clean up took five minutes, and now the biggest decision is whether to shower tonight or in the morning.

Come to think of it, wouldn't mind a similar scenario for Christmas .. ho ho ho   ;-)

Thanks - filling in for a co-worker who is out of town so I’ll be working the next 8 days straight. I don’t mind - extra money which I can always use. Hope you can have a great weekend.

I ate some chilli and green onions for lunch. Couldn’t stand it much longer, I went to the lake. I crossed the ancient Fort Ancient village site and walked around the whole island, no small accomplishment for one 64 years old. A young man I had met before was catching crappie routinely off the point and letting them go, to each his own. Their friends will be stocking my freezer tomorrow hopefully and I’ll remember each and every one. The porch kitty has captured my heart this evening.

Happy Thanksgiving, dirtboy, and everyone else!   (I know it's almost over now in the Eastern time zone, so have a great "black Friday" too!)

I was looking for a good song on youtube to post for you, and I found this one.   Hope you like it.

"Dirt Dirt Dirt"

Take care, and God bless you!

Pumpkin Pie will be on sale tomorrow
(I will indulge)
My friends cannot understand that I Love (or how much I Love) Pumpkin Pie, Egg Nogg and Fruitcake... best time of the year! I’m probably going to gain a pound or two.
(Fruitcake is under-appreciated and overpriced)

;^)

Happy Thanksgiving.

I remember when I was a young divorced mom, someone on CompuServe conservative town hall told me to check this place out. I don’t remember how long I lurked before I joined. I think I’ve been here about 17 years too. You can never be alone here.

We also had a person alone to join our table tonight. It was nice to have her.

Sorry to hear. We lost three family members this last year, including my dad. It hasn’t been great times, but now I feel there is a chance, in the Trump years.
