Re; Haha!! Bogie and Sidney Greenstreet... Two great actors... The Maltese Falcon... Casablanca... Passage to Marseilles... Some of my favorite moves. From a world long ago.

To me, Greenstreet was one of those few actors that had brief but stellar careers in films that gave their characters gravitas, making them stand out far and above the established super stars with which they shared the screen--

Ranking a hair above Sidney is Clifton Webb who was the ultimate urbane high society snob who sometimes, reluctantly offered up a heart of gold. Laura without his Waldo Lydecker would not be remembered as the film classic it is, nor would any of his essential characters in The Razor's Edge, Sitting Pretty, Cheaper by the Dozen, the three 'Mr. Belvedere' films, Cheaper by the Dozen, Dreamboat, Stars and Stripes Forever, Titanic (to me a much better story than James Cameron's special effects extravaganza), Mr. Scoutmaster, Woman's World, The Man Who Never Was and The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker.

Besides these two there was Laird Cregar who was brilliant in way too few films he made from 1940 until his sudden death in 1944 at age 31.

Yes, there was a different style of film acting in those sixty, seventy some odd years ago, yet in many ways it was better than the stark realism offered up by today A-List super stars. And, of course, the plots and story lines were much, much better that what is offered up today. Few of the films made today even have a plot, or even one that makes sense--

Where or where is that damn time machine so I can go back to better days?

Gadzooks-- Was... I lucid dreaming again?

Re: And in college ball...

Ohio State beats Michigan
'Bama beats Auburn
Washington State beats U-Dub
USC destroys the Bruins

And in the game closest to my heart, another edition of the clean old-fashioned hate series...

Georgia Tech beats Georgia!

To Hell With Georgia!!!!

Gadzooks, Rummy-- Calm down and think about how good the turkey will taste.

After all my favorite Texas teams stopped being undefeated and out of the running for the big show, I kinda lost the taste for picking college games--

Yet today I think back and three games from the 1963 season stand out in my memory.

October 11, a Friday night as #5 Navy quarterbacked by Roger Staubach visits lowly SMU in the Cotton Bowl only to find themselves in a firestorm as the Ponies give them more of a game than they expected. On the short end of a 32-28 score, Roger The Dodger drove his team to the 7-yard line with 1 second to play, but his pass attempt was batted down in the end zone by SMU's Tommy Caughren.

I was a High school Junior at Lake Highlands in North Dallas down in Corsicana that weekend visiting my cousin Skip. We listened to the game on the radio and were so hyped that SMU had beaten the mighty Navy--

And on Thanksgiving Day, 1963, #1 Texas traveled to College Station to face my Texas A&M. The Teasips were down 13-9 with only minutes left when Aggies John Bortheron picked off a pass but he fumbled and the Horns recovered on the 44 to continue the drive. Duke Carlisle scored the winning touchdown with 1:19 left and the Longhorns won 15-13 to finish with a 10-0-0 record.

When January 1st rolled around I was living up in Gunnison, Colorado, a much hated Texan having moved there from Dallas a week after Kennedy was shot. Anyway, the whole high school was anti-Texas, so I sucked it up and rooted for them Godless Longhorns. After UT beat Navy soundly 28-7 in the game, in the back of our family car was placed a home-made sign saying "SMU & TEXAS, TOO!"

So, this Thanksgiving I hope my Ags beat LSU and then the next day, the Teasips get shellacked by TCU in their holiday game that replaced the old UT-A&M classic.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Still got my picture there Bendy?

Well here some of my picks following my midseason NFL rankings.

Today’s Thanksgiving games

- Vikings over the Lions.
- Cowboys over the Redskins. (BTW the Cwboys are currently the best team in the NFL - thought you’d like that)
- Steelers over the Colts.

“...And, of course, the plots and story lines were much, much better that what is offered up today. Few of the films made today even have a plot,...”

True that, Bender... I do remember the Mr. Belvedere movies too.

I watch Turner Classic Movies a lot; have done so since I got cable many years ago. Back then, AMC used to be a no-commercial classic movie channel too.

I saw a lot of these old black and white movies when I was kid, growing up in the 60s. We still had BW television sets then. We got our first “color TV console” around 67 or so. Motorola or Magnavox, don’t remember which. But I remember seeing “The Wonderful World of Disney” in color for the first time, and it was amazing.

Hard to believe it was that long ago... but it was.

A good Thanksgiving meal football game: competent play but not intense to interfere with conversation or digestion, fun ending.

Now if only the Redskins can defy the odds and make for an exciting game.

Re: Home of the Corsicana Comet....

Gadzooks, Rummy-- Most FR folks here about know Corsicana for the world renown Collins Street Fruit Cake and occasionally hometown of Classic County Music Legend Lefty Frizzell and that lovable FR bucket of bolts, me--

Yet you are a true Texas football history aficionado mentioning Bobby Wilson, the Corsicana Comet. The Tigers won the m1932 Texas High School Championship when there was just one playing the Fort Worth Masonic Home Might Mites to a 0 to 0 tie, yet Corsicana was awarded the Title on penetrations 3 - 0. A penetration, you young whippersnappers, was moving the ball past the opponent's 20 yard line.

Wilson moved on to Southern Methodist in Dallas to play in the classic game that decided who went to the Rose Bowl from the Southwest Conference in 1935. It was Against TCU with Slingin’ Sammy Baugh. SMU won it, 20—14, with a stunning 50-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter from Bob Finley to Wilson, who made a leaping, diving catch in the end zone.

If you know who the Corsicana Comet is... you may be a Texas Football fan.

And, by George, Rummy, you... do!

If it weren’t for Stafford, the Lions would be 0-11.

Thanksgiving winning streak now at 4.

And with essentially a 2 game lead now, you gotta like their chances.
