I have 2 Ranch Rifles and another Mini 30 and all are accurate. The Mini 30 is probably the least, but look at the round. No problem taking deer at 150 yds. The 2 Mini 14’s are VERY accurate. If you are experiencing problems, maybe have a look at a defect in the stock. I have them scoped with 3x9’s( cheap) and they can hit a quarter at 100 yds, certainly no more than a silver dollar with bench rest at 100yds. I’ll bet a gun shop could find something and fix it cheaper than a new bull barrel bought and mounted. The way the action fits in the stock along with the trigger box is critical and I was told not to keep disassembling it by more than a few. I was told back in the Army not to take my M-14 apart very much. It seems to loosen the action in the wood to do that.

My Mini 14 is probably 2.5 inches at 100 yards. Other guns are .75 inches at 100 yards so it is not me. Still not terrible so considering cost to improve.

My first rifle at around 6 was a Remington 512 in .22. At 15 I picked up a Glenfield 30-30 at FedMart for $58.00. The next year a Remington 700ADL in 243 from Foleys for $99.00 some 47 yrs ago. As I’m always tinkering, I first rebarreled the 700 in 308( several different bbls). It’s currently sporting a 6.5x47 Lapua bbl.

If you want to roll your own, I think you can get boxer prime brass from Norma and Hornady. I’ve never tried Privi Partizan ammo, but I think it is boxer primed, and they have a soft point cartridge that can be used for hunting.

I also have four 30-06; a Garand, a 1903 Springfield, a British Enfield, and a left hand Remington 700. The right-hand bolt actions are a pain to shoot for a southpaw, but I keep them in memory of my dad. I remember my dad and I unpacking the Garand from the cosmolene it came in. We reloaded all our 30-06 ammo.

I guess I’m not old enough to remember when they sold guns at Foleys.

.270 people want their guns to be like their women. Hot, just a bit of recoil, and sweet as honey butter.

.45-70 is my favorite because civilians still can’t own cruise missiles.

Have you tried the Hornady .30-30 Leverevolution neoprene tip round?

The round nose bullets worked fine within 150 yards. With these Hornadays if your sights are zeroed you can make 250 yard shots.
Not with my eyes though. Thirty thirty. It was good enough for gramps.

I gave my BDL to my SIL. My 7600 shoots touching holes with my reloads. I have a Tikka Intercontinental I used to shoot Metallic Silhouettes with with a Leupold 4-10. I used to load down the closer targets to .243 speed. Full load .270 is a beast. I gave some thought to shooting the Intercontinental in Long Range Hi Power F class but never did.

It was at the downtown Houston store.

I bought my first gun (Ruger 10/22) at Bergners Department Store in Peoria, IL. This was back in the 70’s. They had an impressive sporting goods department in the basement. A very memorable event, because your parents thought you were responsible to have a gun and you got to experience the govt. bureaucracy applying for a FOID.

I was a HUGE fan of the .308 Savage, deer didn’t just die, they died with extreme malice - chest broadside would leave a hole on its way out I could put my head into.
