Man arrested for driving 208 miles per hour on Oklahoma turnpike
KFOR ^

Patrol says a state trooper arrested a driver after clocking his speed at more than 200 mph.

The patrol says Trooper Ryan Smith pulled over 19-year-old Hector Fraire Saturday on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City. Authorities say Fraire was driving a Ford Mustang and the trooper’s radar clocked the car at 176 mph and then 208 mph.

Authorities say the driver attempted to elude the state trooper, turning off his headlights and brake lights at one point.

Fraire was eventually pulled over at a red light. The highway patrol says the driver stopped his car and dropped his keys out of the window.

The highway patrol says the driver was arrested on complaints of reckless driving and felony eluding.

The Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake puts out 850HP and can easily top 200 MPH. Modification of even the Mustang GT (non-Shelby) can hit 200 MPH depending on the mods.

Didn't know a 'stang could go that fast, must have been heavily modified.

208 in the dark with no headlights is just asking for trouble, innit?

Just drove 15 hours last weekend, the majority at night, nervous and speed-compliant. Lots of fresh blood patches and deer carcasses around...

My Fox body (eighties and early nineties) stock Mustang(s) would start getting front end mush floaty above 100 MPH. They topped out around (indicated) 135 MPH. I doubt newer models are much better without LOTS of modifications.

KPH would still translate to well over 100MPH which sounds more reasonable.

I can't imagine an Oklahoma police department or TV station would use KPH. I'd sooner believe the radar gun wasn't accurate. If he was going that fast, he'd burn through a tank of fuel pretty quickly.

Good thing he didn’t stick his hand out the window...

Factoring in Bernoulli’s, he’d be airborne.

.... Bet it was clocked at KPH and not MPH.

Police in the U.S. do not use KPH.

I guess life’s been good to you so far ...

Do you have a limo? Ride in the back? Keep the doors locked in case you’re attacked?

IIRC Top Gear drove a Bugatti Veyron Vitess a couple of years ago and got it up to something like 220MPH.It's hard for me to believe a Mustang doing 208.But if this clown did anywhere near 200MPH he deserves 10 years.

Defective radar. People go to court all the time to challenge speed readings, esp. the hand held units.

There’s a Mustang running about on the streets here in N Alabama that has some special lighting and a license plate that claims a top speed of 204 with, some ungodly horsepower rating (500? 700?). Wish I could recall it more clearly.

It’s a Shelby Cobra - guessing around 2010-14.

That was 30 years ago. I’ve hit over 100 without even a shimmy. Didn’t even realize I was doing it. Great aerodynamics, and an independent rear suspension.

See post 16.

“...driver was arrested on complaints of reckless driving”

After someone called it in, troopers must have been cruising up ahead waiting for him to come along.

There’s a King of the Road Mustang. The GT500KR.
Probably that model. But even that one doesn’t allow the operator to “turn of the brake lights” as the article notes.
