Patrol says a state trooper arrested a driver after clocking his speed at more than 200 mph.
The patrol says Trooper Ryan Smith pulled over 19-year-old Hector Fraire Saturday on the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City. Authorities say Fraire was driving a Ford Mustang and the troopers radar clocked the car at 176 mph and then 208 mph.
Authorities say the driver attempted to elude the state trooper, turning off his headlights and brake lights at one point.
Fraire was eventually pulled over at a red light. The highway patrol says the driver stopped his car and dropped his keys out of the window.
The highway patrol says the driver was arrested on complaints of reckless driving and felony eluding.
I got my 2012 5.0 GT to 130+ and it wasn't straining AT ALL. Much more to go before top end.
I wimped out and slowed down, but the Mustang could have gone much faster.
Wow. I missed that part. I live right off Kilpatrick and drive it every day. I might believe that happened if he had the right car. Once you leave Turner and it turns into Kilpatrick, it becomes new, very straight road for many miles until it ends at I-40. A lot of the 25 mile stretch is three lane and would be almost deserted at night. Even where it turns back south heading to I-40, it is a pretty large radius loop, that you could easily handle at speeds of 150mph.
As most people are noting, though, doubtful his car could have reached that speed.
Turning off his lights wouldn’t have help, as that whole section until you get far enough west of Okc, is very well lit. He would have been easily spotted.
Of course. I can’t think of many things more dumb to do though. Forget it switch it back on and you’re sure to get rear ended or a ticket. Add to which, it’s probably against the law to do it. It is to disable other safety features so disabling brakes lights is surely on the list of no-nos.
On the other hand if you aren’t worried about a $1000.00 speeding ticket and impound fees, another 4 to 5 hundred in non-moving violations might not cause you to lose sleep.
A Ford drove over 200 mph? BS.
Related story. I’ve owned a few homogolation Rally cars (R5 Turbos) that were equipped with a separate brake light. There was a switch to activate it on the dash.
Now THAT was a handy item. Used it often to get the tailgating wanna-be racer of my rear.
No argument on that here. Driving really fast is scary and dangerous. (The logo on my GT for the dashboard light that says you are in “track” mode is a HELMET.)
“...if you cant do it in the first ten seconds, dont bother.”
Wise advise.
If the speed goes over 200 mph, does it turn into a coffin?.............
LOL. It ought to. Have a good one.
Problem with that website is that there too many interesting things to see there and it's hard to get back to work.... .like this clip of the Texan who pulled over a cop for speeding.... http://jalopnik.com/chillest-texan-ever-just-pulls-over-a-cop-for-speeding-1784888640
Hennesy.(sp)?
On I-10 in Sealy, Texas.
They build some awesome stuff.
Do you remember the area where the road has the repetitive dips over on the west side? I can’t be hallucinating, I swear I remember them over there.
I'll take the luxury and electronics of the interior of a car over the ability to get to the next stop light before the guy next to me.......
The sheriff probably already had half of it smoked by then!
Learn, then preach.
I took an old Mopar up to 120 in high school. The suspension and brakes weren’t even close to the task. It was barely touching the pavement at speed, then it got a lot worse when we hit the railroad tracks at around 90. Never saw a whiter bunch of white boys.
Took a Mercedes on the autobahn to about 160 and it felt like it was on rails. Cars have come a long way since the old muscle cars.
Maybe it was all downhill.
**************
I don’t think there is any downhill in OK...
As for the brake lights it’s entirely possible he pulled the plug off of the brake light switch down by the pedal.
Without major aero work done on the car he wouldn’t hit 208... 170’s I’d believe but horsepower required is something like the cube of the speed ,, the graph goes vertical pretty quick.
Stratos? The odd Quattro Sport? ... The R5 Turbo is my all time favorite car... How’d you get to drive a “killer B”...
The easy way. I bought them. Both were 1985 Turbo2 Evo models. The second was fairly modified and an absolute blast to drive. Many a muscle car has seen the rear end of it. But that IS it's best side. It's been years since I sold it but this pic might be the same car.
