Has anyone been to see Hacksaw Ridge yet? What is the verdict?
No. But previews turn me off.
Why?
Rush gave it a thumbs up today
The previews turned me off.
Initial battlefield paperwork says he saved 100 wounded men from death. He said that it was “just” 50. A compromise on his MOH citation says it was 75. Men like this made the USA.
I saw it cuz Rush said to.
Yes, I would say it’s a good movie.
Saving Private Ryan was great and this one was good.
I only saw a brief commercial but it seemed similar to ‘Saving Private Ryan’ I thought.. Maybe I’m wrong. If it’s bad I’ll just have to watch ‘The Handmaiden’ OVER AND OVER AGAIN. LOL
It implies that the army didn’t allow him CO status and entry as a medical. Maybe the movie does.
I saw it last night. The story was good and stayed within the parameters of historical accuracy. It really showed the character of the man, Desmond Doss, and his convictions. The relationship with his wife and his bravery on the battlefield almost made the movie write itself. Hell yes it was a good movie.
I heard that too. Said Mel prepared a special captioned version for him, because he can’t hear.
Rush said it blew him away.
Not yet but plan to.
I saw it last night. It was good. I would recommend. Desmond Doss was a real hero.
I saw a documentary on him. Initially, the army did not grant CO status. He had to work for it. He did encounter quite a few bad attitudes. He had a CO that very much disliked him and another who cared for him a great deal so there is a lot of turmoil. I guess I hear what you are saying, the movies often sensationalize and the sensational is constant turmoil.
Save your money and check out his own story on the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project.
Well, it’s not The English Patient.
Seriously, I have been having a hard time watching these types of movies. I can watch fictional violence, but war movies based on fact are a bit bothersome to me.
probably
Can you imagine what it is like for those who go through it and then wonder how our V.A. treats them as they do. Our kids from Vietnam were treated like animals and I hold great disdain even today for those who did it. It is a Democrat Tradition apparently to turn their back on the true protectors of our nation.
I liked it. I saw it a week or two ago.
Dr. Strange is good too.
