The beginning is cringy. He looks
like your Bruno liberal in the ranks refusing to shoot a gun. Then the antigun scene of his dad trying to shoot wife in domestic abuse etc.

However this man in reality was no SJW, just a god fearing 7th Day Adventist, who does admit that he has some kind of remorse in wanting his father dead , but you can tell Hollywood is highjacking it all. A lot of cues when in a relationship evoke some kind of cringy communist subliminal romance too, found in other SJW movies.

The battle scenes then were pretty good with BAR as the star weapon in the hands of the toughest soldier and killer who ends up being his best friend before getting killed.

Ok, what he did was maintain the morale
of the troops and restablish somekind of
meaningful work for
civilization that the suicidal Japanese soldiers without hope and plenty of cynicals lacked. They did a good job of portraying Japanese stubborn discipline as hypocritical in its rituals given no display of civilization and diversity of point of
views on their side with medics of the kind.

So the latter half is A+, the beginning is slow and filled with propaganda, giving it a C. Also we never know what happened to his brother who too volunteered.

Democrats are nation and people racists. There is not a proud nation on Earth they do not have a profound disdain for. The reason is Democrats want to escape blame
for the Civil War mayhem and slavery, all
deeply evil, and instead blaming the entire country is much more practical to them for
covering up their secretive ideology

This Is Your Life Desmond Doss

Aired February 18, 1959.

Worth watching to see the real man. Also worth reading his MOH citation.

According to an older documentary about him, the father trying to shoot an uncle is the true story, I think. It did bother him and did set him on his non-violence path.

No plans to see it here. he might have been brave, but the men who were willing to handle a weapon were the ones who won that war. I’ll save my movie buck for them.

Seriously, I have been having a hard time watching these types of movies. I can watch fictional violence, but war movies based on fact are a bit bothersome to me.

Amen. The 2nd to last movie I went to was in the eighties - working girl. I was cohurst into seeing "The Passion" which I thought was so-so but too much violence. Maybe this is a good movie but I won't see it.

The movie accurately reflects his MOH citatation. Read the citation. Doss was an American hero in every sense of the word..

Matinee today. Great flick with some really good acting. It showed the humorous part of military life before the blood and guts started showing. I think Mel Gibson was trying to outdo the Private Ryan flick in the gore department. It’s obvious he had a lot to offer from the very beginning and the big organization was ready to reject him.

Went to see it today. This is a great war movie. Shows war for what it is -death and destruction. It’s better than Saving Private Ryan. The battle scenes alone make it better than Saving Private Ryan. Vince Vaughn deserves an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He played Doss’s drill sergeant who led his men in battle. Gibson should win Best Director and the movie should win Best Picture. But since Hollywood hates Gibson it’ll probably not even be nominated.

Gibson also deserved it for We Were Soldiers
Also a true story with the lead Officer and book author as advisers

But NO WAY Hollywood is going to give credit to a movie about Vietnam Vets

Arguably, a number of guys wouldn’t have been around later to bear arms and win the war if Doss weren’t there.

The guys who designed the Norden bomb sight didn’t handle weapons, nor those who made the a-bomb but they killed plenty. Most doctors who served never handled a weapon, yet their service was invaluable. You could say the same for chaplains as well, but their service was invaluable to many. The farmers who fed our troops, the ranchers who raised the wool for uniforms, the ship builders. There is no end to the list of people who did not arm themselves to fight whose service was invaluable to the war effort. He held true to his beliefs yet still found a way to aid many.

“Gibson also deserved it for We Were Soldiers”

You’re exactly right. A great, great movie. I’ve talked to vets that were there and all say Gibson got it right.

So how many men do you know who would stay on a battlefield unarmed after their unit surrendered it to the enemy and then proceed to rescue between 50 to 100 wound men by lowering them down an escarpment by himself by hand after receiving multiple wounds themselves?

Last night, Raymond Arroyo had an interesting interview with Mel Gibson about "Hacksaw Ridge" on the EWTN cable network.   (His show is called "The World Over With Raymond Arroyo".)   His show is scheduled to be rerun this Sunday at 7 PM ET, and on Monday at 10 PM ET, for anyone who might be interested.

(You can watch their network live online by going to this webpage, then selecting "Television" at the top of that page, followed by selecting "Watch Live" from that menu, in order to see whatever they are showing at that particular time.   The Mel Gibson interview was not the first segment on that show, but it was quite interesting.)
