'Alien megastructure' 1,400 light years away will be looked at for signs of life [tr]

Scientists scanning the night sky in the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence are turning their telescopes towards a mysterious star, which had been flagged as an ‘alien megastructure’. As part of a $100 million (£81 million) project, backed by Stephen Hawking, astronomers will target the strange stellar object which has baffled scientists since its discovery. Called Tabby’s Star, its regular cycles of dimming have been claimed by some to be a sign of intelligent beings – warranting enough interest for a closer look.

It would be an “alien megastructure’ if there were aliens. But there ain’t.

Hawking has made one good point about ET discovery.

He says it may not be a good idea to make ourselves known 'out there'. Contacts between advanced civilizations and lesser have never worked out well for the lesser.

Yes, that’s sensible.
Except that the pattern of occlusion has to fit within certain physical limits, which apparently this pattern isn’t.
... Unless it’s artificial, which this pattern suggests it is.

If there’s more than one dark companion in different orbits it would make for more irregular cycles.

That’s some other DeathStar - ours is located just off Saturn in a perfectly circular orbit, with a 12 mile high ridge running around its equator and is not round otherwise called Iapetus - see here:

That is a plausible explanation why we can't find anyone out there. They are all in hiding. In general for advanced intelligence to form faster than meteor impacts hit, the high speed evolutionary pressure of tribal warfare is necessary. That's certainly been the requirement on planet Earth. The Milky Way should probably be renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Galaxy.

Frankly, we have no idea what this is so calling it
a mega-structure is somewhat premature, also alien.

Let's see... 1,400 light years away? Why that is only about 10,000 trillion miles away. One trillion seconds is 32,000 years. So...10,000 trillion miles is quite a ways. Conclusion: getting grant money and wasting taxpayers' funds.

I wish people here wouldn’t be so anti-science.

Science isn’t made up of liberals, people. The hard sciences aren’t at least. We’re talking years of hard study, lots of math, and an observant, logical mind.

Hardly a liberal/leftist all emotional brain among them.

As far as grant money; no governments are funding this!

Is funded by Russian Billionaire, Yuri Borisovich Milner. He is a Russian entrepreneur, venture capitalist and physicist. He founded investment firms Digital Sky Technologies, now called Mail.ru Group and DST Global. Through DST Global, Milner is an investor in Facebook, Zynga, Twitter, Flipkart, Spotify, Zocdoc, Groupon, JD.com, Planet Labs, Xiaomi, OlaCabs, Alibaba, Habito, Wish and many others. Milner’s personal investments also include a stake in 23andMe and Beepi.
