Could you verify that?

It’s been discussed on several radio shows and Fox. The power to pardon has unlimited scope. There’s nothing in it that says the president can’t pardon themselves.

I would bet money that Trump pardons Hillary.

It lets him call her a crook one last time and wash his hands of the Clinton mess.

And, despite my personal disgust with the Clintons, there is no up side to prosecuting them for Trump.

from the Constitution -
"he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment."
The language is pretty loose. No president has ever tried it. Why didn't Bill Clinton do it before he was impeached? A pardon can be challenged and if it went to the supreme court right now they couldn't trust the court to uphold the pardon. Maybe that is why they are still pushing for the new SCOTUS appointment.

That may or may not be true. The pardon power is virtually unlimited, but the power to blanket-pardon oneself may be a bridge too far to be acceptable to the DC cabal. From section two of the Constitution:

...and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

The problem would likely be that pardoning oneself is an explicit admission of wrongdoing, and may be politically unacceptable. There is no actual constitutional restriction against it - probably because such self-serving would have been unimaginable at the time (because one's image was tied irrevocably to one's honesty).

Except he said he would prosecute her and appoint a special prosecutor. He even told Hillary he would do it. His supporters are chanting Lock her Up at every rally. I can’t see him pardoning her at all, maybe only if she was on the verge of death.

Can the President pardon someone for crimes of which they have never been convicted?

Can a President who illegitimately occupies the office issue legitimate pardons or order of any kind?

Are you talking about Obama or Hillary? Either way it’s a mess.

The wording of the Constitution says the President “shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.”

In the definitions I’ve looked at, both Reprieves and Pardons deal with convictions, with the penalty due (reprieve) or imposed (pardon). Despite what Gerry Ford did for Nixon, I question whether a pardon can be issued to avoid charges that haven’t been brought. And could such a “pardon” be challenged?

Of course, any such challenge would require Congress to grow a spine, so that avenue might be moot.

In any event, the Constitutional provision applies only to federal offenses. I forget, where are the Clinton Foundation offices located again?

Yes, he can. Nixon got a blanket pardon. Google it, copies of the letter are easy to find.

“It’s obvious Hillary committed many crimes.”

Yes, we know that. But for Obama to pardon her he has to say what he is pardoning her for. He ain’t pardoning her for emailing yoga and wedding pics!

Does he really believe hillary is worth the bother? Unless, maybe he believes, she will get in and pardon him?

“I would bet money that Trump pardons Hillary.”

That thought has crossed my mind as well.
Pardoning her would hopefully shut her up at last!

Talked with a flaming liberal relative at a wedding recently. Surprised that she hates Hillary but doesn’t like the idea of Hillary going to prison. I get the feeling that there are a lot like her who are only supporting Hillary because they don’t want her to go to prison. If Trump could come out with some statement along the lines of: “Losing the election for Hillary would be punishment enough.” He would win in a landslide, I believe.

There is no political up-side to the spectacle of prosecuting her.

I would love to see her locked up but it would politically immobilize Trump and he has important things to get done.

I think your friend is vastly outnumbered by those that want her to go to jail. Big market for Hillary for prison stuff.

I’m afraid the case against Clinton may have been BleachBit beyond hope by the FBI themseleves. This whole thing, if—and hopefully—anything comes of it will have scalps of those who protected Hillary, but she’s probably going to skate. It’s a terrible miscarriage of justice, but it is the corrupt system we have.

Michelle has no interest in working, a permanent vacay is more her style. She fancies herself as a VERY tan Jackie O.
