The Schiaparelli lander, part of the European-led ExoMars 2016 mission, was supposed to touch down on the Red Planet this morning (Oct. 19) at 10:48 a.m. EDT (1448 GMT), but the spacecraft's handler's still don't know whether or not the historic maneuver was successful. "Initial signals were received via the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) as Schiaparelli descended to the surface of Mars, but no signal of touchdown yet," ESA officials wrote in a blog post at 11:12 a.m. EDT (1512 GMT) today. "This is not unexpected due to the very faint nature of the signal received at GMRT. A clearer assessment of the situation will come when ESA's Mars Express will have relayed the recording of Schiaparelli's entry, descent and landing."

This lander is a proof-of-landing-ability for a future rover. Non-rechargeable batteries lasting 2-8 Martian days. This craft, that is.
Don't know the specs for the 2020 planned rover.

I have not run a Foucault pendulum experiment.
I have run a precision gyroscope experiment.
I can vouch for the accuracy and repeatability of the gyroscope experiment.
I cannot do the same for the Foucault pendulum experiment.

suspend it in a vacuum room (build as necessay)
Set a bunch of bowling pins in a circle corresponding o the hour postions on a clock. The center of the circle will be where the ball hangs when it is suspended and not moving.
Set it swinging
In a 24 hour period it will traverse a full circle and knock down each pin.
This is because the earth rotates, but its momentum keeps it going in a straight line as the earth moves underr it.

The “big lie,” however, is that the earth is a spinning ball.
It cannot be so. The gyroscope experiment is repeatable anywhere, any time, on the surface of the earth.
