Suspense on Mars as Europe Awaits Signal from Lander

The Schiaparelli lander, part of the European-led ExoMars 2016 mission, was supposed to touch down on the Red Planet this morning (Oct. 19) at 10:48 a.m. EDT (1448 GMT), but the spacecraft's handler's still don't know whether or not the historic maneuver was successful. You can watch a live webcast of the ExoMars landing here, courtesy of the European Space Agency (ESA).

"Initial signals were received via the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) as Schiaparelli descended to the surface of Mars, but no signal of touchdown yet," ESA officials wrote in a blog post at 11:12 a.m. EDT (1512 GMT) today. "This is not unexpected due to the very faint nature of the signal received at GMRT. A clearer assessment of the situation will come when ESA's Mars Express will have relayed the recording of Schiaparelli's entry, descent and landing."

Leave it to the Europeans to stomp on Opportunity any chance they get.

Shouldn’t the headline read, “Suspense on Earth” or are the Martians all in a twitter over it?

The suspense is on Earth, waiting for a signal from the Mars lander.

I mourn for the English language because of the way “professional” writers and editors murder it.

Suspense on Mars as Europe Awaits Signal from Lander

I highly doubt that there is anyone on Mars to feel any suspense.

I checked the Martians' Twitter web site but I can't speak or understand Martian.

Stop this nonsense.

NASA and its European counterpart are nothing but propaganda agencies. All of their news is fake.

Here is a simple premise and a simple proof.

Premise: The earth does not move.

Proof: Fire up any professional gyroscopic navigation system on any grounded, stationary aircraft, anywhere on earth.

Wait for it to settle - about 5 to 10 minutes.

Observe its readings.

Leave it completely undisturbed.

Come back to it any time during the following 24 hours.

You will find that its readings remained unchanged.

If the earth WERE moving, the readings would be constantly changing.

However, you will find that the readings DO NOT change.

Ergo, the earth IS NOT moving.

I hear 'ya! The red dots are where they wanted to land.

.

Now look at the overlap: Opportunity's location vs. the Schiaparelli landing site.

Our good friends, the Euroweenies.
