Ha! That bottom photo—that’s the look I would get from my cardinal when I didn’t fill the feeder before a blizzard. And yes, he would be waiting for me to get out of bed.

We have a lot of double-crested cormorants along the Upper Mississippi nowadays, and while they are interesting to watch, they aren’t the best birds to have as neighbors. There are some small islands in Pool 13 that the cormorants have defecated into a sort of moonscape, the droppings having killed all the vegetation.

Pelicans have returned to the area in sufficient numbers to be common (though not as common as the cormorants), and they can often be seen sitting - and shi**ing - alongside the cormorants.

I was just sitting out in my back yard watching birds, mostly Cardinals. Beautiful day here in Houston. Thanks for the pics!
