Republicans Call for Donald Trump to Drop Out; Trump Says He Won't Quit
NPR ^ | 10/8/2016 | Tamara Keith

Posted on 10/08/2016 11:03:43 AM PDT by Alter Kaker

Reaction to the video of Donald Trump using explicit language and apparently describing himself forcing himself on women continues to roll in. And it is not good for the GOP nominee. Prominent Republicans are calling on him to drop out and elected officials are running from him and fast. See the full list of Republicans calling on Trump to step down at the bottom on this post.

The candidate isn't backing down, telling the Washington Post's Robert Costa in an interview today, "I'd never withdraw. I've never withdrawn in my life."

The Post reports, Trump called from his home in Trump Tower and said, "No, I'm not quitting this race. I have tremendous support."

Trump also tweeted, seemingly downplaying the firestorm that has consumed his campaign.

Just to give a sense of how bad things have gotten in the past 24 hours, he's lost Hugh Hewitt.

The conservative talk show host had been a strong supporter of Trump arguing Republicans must back him to get a conservative justice on the Supreme Court.

Carly Fiorina, who lost to Trump in the GOP primary, called for him to step aside and for the Republican Party to run vice president nominee Mike Pence in his place.

Add senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ), neither of whom endorsed Trump, to the growing list of prominent and elected republicans to get out.

But, this would be significantly easier said than done according to a leading Republican election lawyer.

"People in the GOP are understandably nervous. People are looking for an escape," Ben Ginsberg told NPR. "The rules don't provide a ready-made escape. Nor do ballot rules, nor the electoral college. While people are looking for an out, this die was cast in Cleveland."

Ginsberg, who is a partner at the Jones Day law firm, spoke with the NPR Politics Podcast.

"The RNC rules allow for replacement of a candidate on death or declining the nomination, but no provision for replacing," said Ginsberg. "At this stage, Donald Trump would have to resign. There's no way to stage a coup."

If Trump were to resign, Ginsberg says, the GOP would have to go through a complicated process to nominate a new candidate.

"Under the rules, if there is a vacancy, it doesn't go to the VP candidate. It's a matter of rules. It can be anyone. Part of what the RNC would have to do is figure out the nomination rules to see who would be eligible. It's an all-bets-are-off scenario. There might be a political consensus for Mike Pence, but it is not mandated by the rules," he said.

But it is four weeks from election day. And the idea of a drawn out fight over the top ticket is almost politically unfathomable.

Elected republicans aren't waiting. They are now running away from their party's nominee. Senator Kelly Ayotte who is in a tough race for re-election and never endorsed Trump, now says she won't vote for him either.

Congresswoman Martha Roby in deep red Alabama says she can't support him either.

The reason is simple, as seasoned political analyst Stuart Rothenberg put it on twitter, "This certainly raises the possibility of a down-ballot bloodbath for Republicans."

Trump was initially supposed to attend a rally today in Wisconsin with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. Then after the video release, it was announced that Pence would attend in Trump's place. Now the Trump campaign confirms Pence won't be attending the rally either.

Sen. John Thune (R-SD), a member of the GOP's leadership, tweeted that Trump should drop out immediately.

For elected Republicans, it is rapidly becoming clear that merely rejecting Trump's remarks isn't enough. Every one of them can expect to be asked whether they are withdrawing their endorsements and whether they will even vote for their party's nominee.

Republicans Calling For Trump To Step Aside

Sen. John Thune (South Dakota): Third highest ranking Republican in the Senate
Sen. Mark Kirk (Illinois): Has run campaign ads distancing himself from Trump.
Sen. Ben Sasse (Nebraska): Prominent "Never Trumper"
Sen. Mike Crapo (Idaho): Rescinds previous endorsement
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (West Virginia): She said the "appropriate next step may be for him to reexamine his candidacy."
Sen. Jeff Flake (Arizona): Did not endorse Trump previously
Sen. Mike Lee (Utah): Did not endorse Trump previously
Rep. Martha Roby (Alabama)
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (Utah)
Rep. Barbara Comstock (Virginia)
Rep. Mike Coffman (Colorado)
Rep. Bradley Byrne (Alabama): Previous Trump supporter
Rep. Charlie Dent (Pennsylvania): Previously said he is not voting for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton in the general election
Carly Fiorina, former presidential candidate
Hugh Hewitt, conservative radio talk show host, previous Trump backer

Planned and staged between clinton and her establishment allies.

Goes all the way back to establishment attacks on Trump from the beginning.

Your not a republican your a fool lieral lover...Trump has an opportunity, if he wants to take it:

“Some Republicans are publicly calling for me to withdraw, or withdrawing endorsements, or votes.”

“I respect their decision, but I suggest they announce they are resigning from the Republican Party and join the Democrats — because they are supporting the Democrat candidate for President.”

“By resigning from the Republican Party now, your constituents will know who they are really voting for in November.”

Optional: “Democrats have always stood by Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, no matter what they have done or said. This is why Republicans have lost election after election”.

Nurse backs up Clinton rape charge
Attended Broaddrick's wounds after alleged assault in Arkansas

June 26, 2003

[a few excerpts from article...]

Kelsey recalls Broaddrick saying the meeting with Clinton began with small talk, and "she was a little surprised he was by himself."

"She said he was showing her locations outside the window there in Little Rock, and then, all of a sudden, he just kind of grabbed her and started kissing her," remembers Kelsey.

"He overtook her and pushed her to the bed, and from that point on it was just a rape."

Kelsey says Broaddrick explained how her lip became swollen: "He bit her lip to try to keep her from struggling with him.

All [some of] the President's victims:
Bill Clinton's long history of sexual violence against women

By Daniel J. Harris
& Teresa Hampton
Capitol Hill Blue

Although the White House has successfully intimidated NBC News into deep sixing an explosive interview with an Arkansas woman who says Bill Clinton raped her 20 years ago, Capitol Hill Blue has confirmed that the charge is but one of many allegations of sexual assault by the President.

A five month investigation into the President's questionable sexual history reveal incidents that go back as far as Clinton's college days, with more than a dozen women claiming his sexual appetites leave little room for the word ''no.''

Juanita Broaddrick, an Arkansas woman who worked on Bill Clinton's campaign when he was attorney general, told NBC's Lisa Meyers two weeks ago she was raped by Clinton. NBC, under intense pressure by the White House, shelved the interview. The White House also threatened Fox News Tuesday after it reported the story.

But Broaddrick's story is only one account of many sexual assaults by Clinton. Among the other incidents:

In an interview with Capitol Hill Blue this week, the retired State Department employee said he believed the story of the young English woman who said Clinton raped her in 1969.

''There was no doubt in my mind that this young woman had suffered severe emotional trauma,'' he said. ''But we were under tremendous pressure to avoid the embarrassment of having a Rhodes Scholar charged with rape. I filed a report with my superiors and that was the last I heard of it.''

Capitol Hill Blue also spoke with the former Washington fundraiser who confirmed the incident, but said she would not go public because anyone who does so is destroyed by the Clinton White House.

''My husband and children deserve better than that,'' she said.

The other encounters were confirmed with more than 30 interviews with retired Arkansas state employees, former state troopers and former Yale and University of Arkansas students. Like others, they refused to go public because of fears of retaliation from the Clinton White House.

Likewise, the mainstream media has shied away from the Broaddrick story. Only The Drudge Report and other Internet news sites have actively pursued it.

The White House did not return calls for comment Tuesday night.

Maybe it’s time for the female electorate in this country to man up and treat this election with the seriousness it deserves.

Think for a change - Hillary will turn the lower 48 into another Europe in a very short amount of time. What are you perennially offended going to do when Sharia is the law of the land and your walk-in closet is filled with nothing but burkas?

We are at a crossroads - and there’s no turning back from a wrong decision come Nov 8th.

What a tempest in a teapot. I’m female, but still glad some off the cuff remarks I made eleven years ago were not taped to be used against me ex post facto. I was disappointed in Pence’s lukewarm statement, too. Is he angling for Trump to drop out so he can run???

Sarah B, as an ex-Democrat I thought I was leaving them for good when I registered as a Republican. As it turns out I never left the damn party. Not a dime’s worth of difference between the R and the D labels these days, is there? I’m beyond pissed at the GOP. Trump will get my vote and the rest of the ballot stays blank. The Republicrat wing of the Uniparty is corrupt on all levels.

Or better, each woman could have 30 seconds ad time to tell their story - - since the damn snowflakes in the press can’t bother to care about powerless women.

Criminal is right!!!! Iran is on the road to being a nuke power. North Korea already is. The entire middle east is either already on fire or the fire is as yet smoldering. The explosion will incinerate the world. Putin’s Russia is acting as did the old Soviet Union.
Now an election may hang(?) on something one candidate did who knows how many years ago. Good heavens.
Meanwhile his opponent is an acknowledged ENABLER for a serial woman abuser, rapist, and crook. She herself , but for her identity would already be residing in a jail cell, from crimes ranging from treason, to grand theft, bribery and a shopping list of other goodies.
And the “MEDIA” ignores that which would convict any other American, and goes crazy over something that has nothing to do with the continued exisance of the United State.
Our Founding Fathers never, in their worst nightmares, envisioned the rising of “Freedom of the CORRUPT Press.”

They are trying to gin up some caucus of bible thumpers to come out and condemn Trump.

None have. None likely will.

These GOPers never gave a damn about this type of stuff enough to get rid of Bill or seriously go after Hillary in the past. It’s all an over-the-top act to see what F’ed in the head wingnut will take the bait.

Once they see it not working by Monday, they will beat a retreat.

What a hypocrite! Does anyone here really believe that “Arnold” has never taken part in a private conversation, which would be similar to what he is sanctimoniously referring to here? Anyone believe that in his career in weight rooms & muscle competitions, he has never been involved in a conversation that he would be embarrassed to hear broadcast?
