Our prehistoric ancestors were as violent as humans today

The propensity for humans to kill one another may be hot-wired into our DNA but culture also has the power to change our behaviour, a new study has found.

The research, led by José María Gómez at the Estación Experimental de Zonas Áridas in Spain and published in the journal Nature, explored the human tendency to act violently towards members of our own species.

This topic has been hotly debated among experts, with scores of studies questioning whether this vicious trait is an evolutionary development or the result of our cultural or social dynamics.

So much for the noble savage. Rousseau's idea of uncivilized man living in peace and harmony which still enthralls the Left needs to be assigned to the same trash heap as the idea of a flat earth.

Once again, facts that are plain as the nose on your face to us are major new discoveries to liberals.

I wonder how much money these people make for concluding the obvious. Sounds like a great gig.

Cain killed Able and had offspring to spread his DNA. Able, no so much so. Oh, and I need $100,000 in grant money for arriving at that conclusion.

i.e. Times change. People don’t.

This subject has been controversial. The long childhood of humans has reduced species intra tribal violence. However, inter tribal violence seems more prevalent than many other species. Monogamy has benefits within a tribe reducing competition for females.

They were?? Wow, these people are brilliant...for idiots.

The only thing that has changed, people can be killed much faster and en masse.

I understand that the so-called "paleo diet" occasionally included human flesh.

Let's hope that doesn't become a thing.

This tendency is not specifically in our DNA. It’s spiritual in nature. That is why God described it as “sin” to Cain.

Unless I’m mistaken, it was Seth’s line that survived the Great Flood (through Noah and his sons) and not Cain’s.

The whole thing was covered in Genesis.

Well, of course they were, and we have film evidence to prove it!

Neither. It is spiritual in nature. Left-wing scientists so-called will continue to maintain that matter is all that exists, however.
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

— Genesis 4:8

The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

— Genesis 6:11

Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them. / For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.

— Deuteronomy 31:28-29, Moses speaking

“It is widely acknowledged that monopolisation of the legitimate use of violence by the state significantly decreases violence in state societies,” the paper explains.

It does until the state is seen as shirking its duty of using violence where necessary. Then, the would-be victims will increase their use of violence until either the state starts doing its job, or the problems are vitiated.

Studies of modern hunter gatherer societies and ones in the past century showed MUCH higher murder rates, 10-30X that of civilized society.
The myth of the noble, peaceful savage is just that - a myth.

Fifty five years ago I read of an archeological dig in which they unearthed the skeleton of a prehistoric man. Firmly lodged in the backbone was a flint spear tip.

I remember an old LIFE magazine book from fifty five years ago, about early man in Europe. The girls in the paintings for the book were smoking hot! Not a bit of cellulite anywhere!

Yeah! A bit part of the “Leftist meme” was that man was inherently good if left to their own devices, ignoring the fact that civilization has to be pounded into most people.
