I saw George Jones in concert three times. He always put on a great show. My brother tried to go see him in Charleston once and he never showed. That was in his "No show Jones" days. He still has the ticket and wouldn't get rid of it for anything. After that his wife started calling George a drunk and my brother would let her know real fast that he was the greatest country singer that ever lived and he could drink as damn much as he felt like drinking. I'm going to see my brother in a couple days and I'll bring up ole George not showing for that event and see his wife start up again about it. And my brother will put her in his place again. All the great singers are leaving us. I like a few of the new ones, but couldn't even tell you their names. I basically listen to my old tapes and CDs I've had for years.

Johnny Cash got doped out for years, too. I went to see him in Norfolk and he could hardly stand up. After the show, I went backstage to his autograph and walked right into a shitstorm with him at the center.

That was one of my favourites back when I listened to country radio. Loved it whenever the DJ played that tune and I could crank up the radio and go that bit faster (out on a country road or highway).

I saw George Jones in the summer of ‘67 at Shelley’s (later Gilley’s) in Pasadena, Texas. He got so drunk that he could not return after intermission. Guess was half-show Jones then.

My husband had the privilege of opening for George Jones at Indian Lake near Webster, Mass back in the 80s. I have pictures but I don’t remember how to get them from the album to here.
