RIO VERDE, AZ - It was an epic battle between two rattlesnakes and it was all caught on camera.

The wrestling match went down Wednesday night, in the backyard of a home near Dynamite and Pima.

Bryan Detwiler says his patio became a ring-side seat.

This one I’m sure is a Python, probably Burmese.

Time to break out my 16 gauge...

Unless he wants to go to Australia, they’re safe from his murderous rage.

Some people have all the luck.

And FWIW, the snakes would not be there unless there was a food source to support them.

Imagine how much disease carrying vermin must be nearby.

Those are the males battling for rights to the female who was under a bush, nearby.

This has been all over my snake forums for more than a week.

From my very limited *snake* experience, I've found garter snakes to be *stinky* when you pick them up ... not skunk-bad, but unpleasant stinky bad.

Too many little bones that remind me of trout only you can’t just take them out in one shot like you ca a trout.

But then maybe I overcooked mine. I roasted it in foil with lemon, garlic and herbs.

Have actually seen a black snake kill a copper head. We keep a pair for that purpose

Really?

I suppose you never woke up at 6 years old seconds after a nightmare where you were holding a deadly one in your hands watching it strike at your face. Dozens of times...no, hundreds of times...and it still happens, but less frequently. Nightmares all my life, I’ve woke up almost screaming hundreds of times, seconds earlier watching one strike at me, knowing I’m DEAD...if it connects. Holding the damn thing in my hand watching it strike at me...

No thanks, I’m grabbing my shotgun. The only ones I don’t introduce to either my shotgun or 22 pistol are the king snakes, they live on the poisonous ones. I’ll leave garter and grass snakes alone, they help cut down on insects but they still give me the heebee jeebies. If you’ve never been there, you have no idea what it’s like to have that kind of terrifying dreams your entire life. At 5 and 6 years old I was beyond terrified, and had no idea what was going on. Never was I so glad to wake up and find it was only a dream. But I still remember some of them vividly.

One was a recurring one, same thing for around 15 years, usually at least one night every couple of weeks. We were moving, which we did a lot, 35 times before I was 18, and I had to jump out of a huge Mayflower moving truck, 18 wheeler, with boxes full of stuff. In a puddle at the rear of the truck was a coiled rattler. After 3 or 4 jumps I would miss and land on top of the damn thing and wake up as it struck at me. 5 and 6 years old...Still remember it well over 50 years later. Watching that head come at me full speed is never forgotten...

I hate the damn things. It has nothing to do with “manning up”.

**Winter’s afoot! (Well, Real Soon Now!)**

So when are you coming north darling SG? I hear you don’t need a passport at the Mason-Dixon line any longer. ;)

The recipe I remember is one in which the rattlesnake is prepared like NE lobstah.

BTW, where are you going to get fresh rattlesnake? You don’t have to tell me, I understand, you don’t live in DC any longer.

* 1 rattle snake, skinned and cleaned
* your favorite cocktail sauce, homemade or store bought OR
* melted garlic butter

Cut snake into 3” – 4” pieces

Steam in a double boiler for 10 – 12 minutes or until fully cooked.

Remove and let cool.

Once cool, remove the meat from the bone trying to leave in big pieces.

Dip in the cocktail sauce or garlic butter and enjoy.
