Washington (CNN)It isn't exactly a squid pro quo, but scientists are naming a new fish after President Barack Obama partly as a way to say thanks for his decision last month to create a new protected area off the Hawaiian coast.
National Geographic reported Friday that the maroon and gold creature, which was discovered 300 feet deep in the waters off Kure Atoll, is the only known fish to live within Papahānaumokuākea, an expanse of coral reefs and seamounts home to more than 7,000 species.
One looking for the fish's official name, however, is likely to stay hooked -- a formal description of the species isn't expected to be published until later this year.

This fish infiltrates another fish’s nest via disguise, and then proceeds to kill or kick out the inhabitants while inviting in other predators in at the same time.

Its a genus of flatworms. From American Scientist, Sept- Oct 2016, page 293: The largest South American land flatworm, Obama eudoximariae from the Rio de Janerio forest in Brazil can reach lengths of 29 centimeters,,, It is coincidence that the flatworm has the same name as the current President of the United States. Obama means “leaf animal” in the extinct Tupi language of Brazil....”
Larry Sinclair thinks they should have renamed the blowfish for him.
Now, they also named a fungus after Obama (this is NOT a joke), this was appropriate.
Obama was Pacific Slimehead but they renamed him
for the campaign as Orange Roughy and a lot of
gullible folks ate it.
