CEO who gouged price of EpiPen is daughter of Democrat senator

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — As a pharmaceutical company run by U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin’s daughter faces scrutiny for hiking prices on life-saving allergy injection pens, Manchin is remaining mum.

The Democratic West Virginia senator’s daughter, Heather Bresch, is CEO of Mylan, which manufactures EpiPens.

A two-dose package cost around $94 nine years ago. The cost averaged more than six times that in May.

Manchin spokesman Jonathan Kott said Wednesday the senator had no comment.

EpiPen’s are purchased by schools across the country, Mylan has all but eliminated the competition.

Make that the “future ex-Senator” form W. Va.

Glad the Dems don’t like money. They would be unbearable if they really wanted it.

Now?

You realize this is a black market business opportunity, if so.

Countless people rely on these devices. As someone said up thread you can’t just have one because you have to have them in places where the patient may spend time.

They save lives. A simple bee sting can kill someone with allergies.

Double pack $500 here now after price hike. That will run my daughter about $3,000 for full supply. And like I said, they expire.

I was tested about 12 years ago and I'm allergic to wasp and bee stings. I'm on immunization therapy for them and other allergies. Just my bees and wasp shots are 3 shots every 6 weeks. My other allergens such as pollens, mold, etc is 3 shots every 3 weeks. The purpose is to raise my immunity so my reaction if I get stung is not as severe. The first thing my Allergy Doc told me was I need to have a EpiPen 2-Pak. One sting I'm likely OK a half dozen stings could trigger a reaction.

“this is a plant story. It was done to create a crisis in need of a solution.”

It IS a crisis, and it DOES need a solution. Where the heck is your conscience located, up your *ss? This is worst of running a business with no moral compass. This is not capitalism, it is price gouging in the extreme, and people will die because of it. Dems without morals.

Back in the 30’s my dad was out in a field with a weed whip. Hit a hive.

Lucky to be alive. They stung him bad.

Deathly afraid of getting stung since. epi pens would have been handy to have around, but they didn’t exist back when I was growing up.

Yea, big pharmamneeds to brought to heel. I don’t mind them making a buck after spending billions on research to bring new drugs to market, but epi has been around for a long time. There’s no excuse for this gouging.

” Gouging is normal in the medical industry”

Classic inelasticity of demand. Make your own drug if you think the market is “unfair”. Oh and repeal all anti pharma tort laws.

Had to make money somewhere to justify her salary

From Heather Bresch's Wiki page

In 2007, Mylan secured rights to the nearly fifty year old EpiPen, used to treat anaphylaxis (severe allergic reactions).[29] Bresch advocated for broader availability of EpiPens in public places and helped pass the School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act which made epinephrine more accessible in schools.[17][30] Between 2009 and May 2016, under Bresch's tenure as Mylan president, Mylan raised the price of a set of pens by nearly 500 %, from $103.50 to $608.61.[29] Proxy filings show that from 2007 to 2015, Bresch's compensation went from $2,453,456 to $18,931,068, a 671 percent increase. During the same period, EpiPen prices went from $56.64 to $317.82, a 461 percent increase, according to data provided by Connecture.[31]

And don't forget, this POS tried to pass herself off as having an EMBA. After an attempted cover-up by WVU, it was rescinded. Also the president, provost and a dean of WVU were forced to resign.

You are right. I wonder how much these cost in Canada. I don’t know how these pharma companies can turn around, and screw the country that helped them get rich. It’s not for want of laws - it’s the crooked politicians that allow or enable this to happen.

I used to carry an EpiPen until I figured out what I’m severely allergic to, namely aspirin and NutraSweet. Not everyone figures it out, and not everyone survives analyphalatic shock three times (I have, most people don’t survive the third episode even with an EpiPen handy).

This b#### can GO TO H###..

Bresch, then-Gov. Joe Manchin’s daughter claimed, then got and finally had rescinded, a phony degree from WVU. In the hubbub, the president, provost and a dean were forced to resign for trying to cover her ass.

Having a Governor, now Senator, for a Daddy can be beneficial.....one way or another.

In the last 30 days, two of my medications went up 290% and 66% respectively.

My co-pay for Lyrica increased from $27.50 to $108. Pfizer raised the cost of the drug, so my health care insurance provider raised the tier of the drug to increase my cost.

If that wasn't bad enough, the Humira I need to keep my Ankylosing Spondylitis at bay went from $1,800/mo. to $3,000/mo over the same 30 day period.

I wonder which Democrat Senator's child is responsible for this?!

If any Freepers need an epinephrine auto-injector...skip the rip-off “Epipen” and get the brand called “Adrenaclick”...$144.62 for 2 vs. $630.+ for Epipen:

http://www.goodrx.com/adrenaclick
vs.
http://www.goodrx.com/epipen?drug-name=epipen

And: http://adrenaclick.com

A 3rd brand (not sure on price): http://epinephrineautoinject.com/index.php

Similar instructions, remove safety caps and push the needle against the thigh.

When Ms. Bresch’s/Mylan’s Epipen sales fall 80-90%, the price will come down.

The whole epipen thing is a crony-capitalist/politician move anyway....now required by law at schools and soon airlines:
https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s1884/text
https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/senate-bill/1972
Ms. Bresch’s senator dad pushed it.
