I'm at work right now so the thread won't be regularly monitored but I'll pop in here and there to check comments.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve heard and remember ads from the Tommy Nobis foundation here in Atlanta that seemed to be for real... check and see if they have affiliates in your location.

I donated my pick up to Kars for Kids. Painless. About as easy as it could have been. Just don’t expect much from the “vacation” voucher.

I donated a car several years ago to Purple Heart.

Had a car I wanted to donate last year. Called and checked on every donation agency listed anywhere and talked to a ton of people. Ended up giving it to the Salvation Army which auctioned it off and used the money in their local store. They also gave me tax form and I used the auction amount for a tax deduction.

Lots of hype out there about donating cars but not much real truth. Check them out and be careful. Option I chose seemed like the best deal in our area of Texas.

Unless you are filing 1040 with a lengthy list of itemized deductions, you should just consider it a gift.

Take your pick of organizations.

Why not sell it on Craigslist and send the proceeds to the Freepathon.

I have a better idea...sell it instead...then give the money to the charity you want. There is a simple rule in economics; the more people/entities that touch something, the more it will cost the end user.

In this case the reverse holds true..the more people/entities that touch the truck, the less real money will be put to use.

I just heard an ad on the radio for an NRA donation program. Sounds like as good a place as any, and better than most.

Before you donate it to any of the charities that advertise this sort of thing, do some research on them and see if they are thinly-disguised scams.

I’ve donated several to the Dallas Can Academy, a local organization. You might want to see who is doing work in your local area as opposed to some national outfit.

As an aside, please don’t forget to remove the license plates before they take possession of the truck.

Also, you will want to check with your local DMV to cancel your vehicle registration (especially important if the vehicle is still drivable). Rules vary from state to state on what the exact process is for a donated vehicle, but it’s up to you to inform the DMV that the vehicle is no longer in your possession or under your ownership. When I donated mine (years ago) there was a form to complete and send in to DMV. If you don’t do this, and somebody else drives the vehicle, and gets a ticket or is in an accident, if the vehicle wasn’t reregistered, they can come back to you as the registered owner, even if you have transferred title.

If you can sell the truck, sell it and donate the money. Most of the charities that take cars contract with salvage yards to pick up the car and the salvage yard passes on a flat sum that may be as low as ten dollars.

Kars for Kids is well known because of its advertising on the radio. The money goes to Hasidic schools in Lakewood NJ run by the founder of Kars for Kids.
