Early in his career, Alfred Hitchcock began making small appearances in his own films. The cameos sometimes lasted just a few brief seconds, and sometimes a little while longer. Either way, they became a signature of Hitchcock’s filmmaking, and fans made a sport of seeing whether they could spot the elusive director. From 1927 to 1976, Hitchcock made 37 appearances in total, and they’re all nicely catalogued by Hitchcock.TV and the clip above.

If you’re hungry for a good film over the long Labor Day weekend, then don’t miss our collection 22 Free Hitchcock Films Online, which includes The 39 Steps, The Lodger, The Man Who Knew Too Much and other early classics. Or simply dive into our meta collection, 1,150 Free Movies Online: Great Classics, Indies, Noir, Westerns, etc.. His biggest challenge was in appearing in Lifeboat. Three self-provided "attaboys" to the first person who posts how he accomplished it.

There was an even better video in the sidebar that actually showed which movie each clip was from.

I question whether or not Hitchcock did make two cameos in Rope. Some people believe that the man walking in the street, during the opening credits of Rope, isn’t Hitchcock, and Hitchcock doesn’t do more than one cameo in any other of his films.

Loved this!

Most obscure cameo ever has to go to Mel Brooks in Young Frankenstein................any one know the scene I refer to?

No, but if you humm a few bars.

Actually that is one of my wife’s all time favorites. I’m betting she doesn’t realize Mel did a cameo. I certainly didn’t.

Mel Brooks even does a cameo appearance in “The Producers” although it’s only his voice.

“Mel Brooks’ voice is dubbed in for a singer in “Springtime for Hitler”. Mel only sings: “Don’t be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Nazi Party” for dancer Tucker Smith.”

He imitates an off screen cat’s meow, after it’s hit by a dart.
