Leftist Professor: 'Melting Pot' a Racist Phrase
Truth Revolt ^ | Aug. 12, 2016 | Paul Bois

A leftist art professor from the University of Florida has advised her students to avoid the phrase "melting pot," because that's racist.

If you're a student, and you happen to wind up in Professor Pamela Brekka’s class Art Appreciation: American Diversity and Global Arts, you might want to avoid uttering "melting pot" or she'll knock you down a few grades.

A portion of Brekka's online syllabus reads in all-caps:

"DO NOT EVER USE THE PHRASE ‘MELTING POT’ IN THIS CLASS. IN THIS CLASS WE CELEBRATE DIVERSITY, NOT SAMENESS."

In an interview with Campus Reform, Brekka stated she felt the term didn't accurately reflect diversity, saying the phrase "signals a Euro-White Colonial standard, point blank, period." Brekka rather prefers the other analogy of America as a salad bowl, where individual ingredients are mixed together but remain distinct.

As noted by the The Daily Caller, professor Brekka admitted to knocking students' grades for saying the phrase, though she denies using it as a "strict policy."

According to one of the professor's students, Brekka's leftist fanaticism goes into other areas as well, with one of her discussions focusing on whether or not "architectural design has been dominated by men in order to promote a social/political order dominated by men."

"It’s almost as if the questions, how they’re worded, you can only answer them this one certain left-wing way," the student told Campus Reform. "It was not a college level course … because we didn’t get a lot of the information."

It is remarkable that our history professor is obviously ignorant of the history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

There has not been a “melting pot” in this country ever since the term was invented. It was a wish. The wish was never fulfilled. The country is divided in dozens of ways, as the left forces people into groups, and gives some groups special privileges, and condemns other groups to second-class citizenship.

Doesn't "celebrating diversity" mean that we, too, should embrace our Caucasian-oriented Western Civilization and national/regional influences which have become part of culture and society?

Just tryin' to insert some logic here.

View the list of those brave men who died on the USS Arizona. No “melting pot” in 1941. The “Greatest Generation” kept us from losing our borders, language, and culture to Nazism and Totalianism. BTW: My latest Medicare bulletin arrived with Chinese characters. Thank you, Ted Kennedy!

Professor Pamela Brekka, a notorious Segregationist from the South. A traditional Democrat you might say.

I wonder what she would do if a student, who wasn’t one of her students, used the phrase? Turn him in?

The melting pot is a metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous, the different elements “melting together” into a harmonious whole with a common culture. It is particularly used to describe the assimilation of immigrants to the United States.

Over time, Italian-Americans married Russian-Americans, Irish-Americans married French-Americans, and the next generation would be just plain American.

The Left wants a country of mutually-hostile factions, to make it easier to control by "community organizers". They thus encourage the immigration of populations least-likely to easily assimilate.

This “professor” should not be teaching. There is no justification for “knocking down” a student’s grade just because you do not like their viewpoint. This is abuse of power.
