These friends attempt to fly a kite in Cromarty, Scotland, but due to strong winds, the kite tries to fly the man instead.

Too much fun. :)
Charlie Brown?
Some time ago (1970s?) a bunch of people were trying to set a record for the largest kite flown. The attempt took place somewhere on the Oregon coast, I think. One of the participants got caught in the kite and was lifted by it, then was killed when he fell back to the ground.
Probably just as well you didn’t get that particular wish.
Thanks, that was hilarious!
Hopefully it wasn't a dog park.
Well, I was just a stupid kid.
My brother and I built a couple giant kites out of 2x4s and plastic sheeting and drug them behind the tractor. They didn’t really work out that well. So I got into hang gliding about 30 years ago. I still have 4 hang gliders, one is an old style Rogolo kite. It has floats and can be towed behind a boat. The others are more modern double surface wings and have batons to shape them like an airplane wing.
Lots of good adventures and no serious injuries in my case. But I was trying to explain to my fiancé and now wife that jumping off a cliff with 70 pounds of aluminum and Dacron strapped to your back was not really as dangerous as it seemed. So I took her to a hang gliding club meeting, known as the Cloud Based Country Club.
It had been a rough Spring and when we arrived at the Shakey’s Pizza Parlor it looked more like the waiting area for the Emergency Room at a hospital. Half the people there seemed to be wearing some kind of cast or bandages, and some were being wheeled in. Our guest speaker was Steve Pool, a local weatherman and everyone was trying to tell him the condition of the members was just a weird anomaly. He was offered and turned down several offers to take him for a “tandem” ride.
“Years ago I flew 2-line Stunt Kites. I’ve been lifted off the ground and drug across the park face down.”
You get points for tenacity. A lot of people would have let go. :)
Har!
Great story.
I love kites and still have an 8’ bat kite that is a gentle flyer in any wind.
An 8’ para-foil with appropriate rigging and a 25 knot wind will OWN you in nothing flat.
I had $200 invested in it. I wasn't about to let go.
Then home for repairs.
