Is it allowed to just ignore Apple?
I hate Apple because you have to use ITunes for everything. With Android I can plug my phone into the USB port on my computer and delete/move files with ease. Also with Android you can move files to a memory card. I often find myself plugging my phone into my computer and moving files/music/photos/etc from my phone to memory card or adding music/documents from my computer to my phone. Its a snap
Coming off of Windows, the only thing I hate about my iPhone and iPad is iTunes. The software is ancient. It needs a complete redesign, not just change around the edges as Apple has been doing.
Anyway, it took me years to compile music playlists on windows; and WMP and my MP3 worked perfectly together. That all changed when I got hooked on iPhone, then iPad. Windows playlists don’t import to iTunes, so if you love your music you must start at square one with iOS.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
I soon learned, however, that I could sometimes go weeks without eating an apple and never see a doctor.
I realized early on that my parents were liars.
I lost all respect for authority figures.
I even started to hate poetry and music because they rhymed.
To this day I can't go anywhere near an apple.
My got my first re-introduction to Apple after nearly 20 years (used to work for Motorola back when the Mac fx was king; back in the 68030 days). Then my career took me to Intel and the Windows world. That re-introduction to Apple had me furious as an engineer. More technically furious then I have ever been at any design review, patent hearing or budget meeting. I had to leave the store to cool down.
Why? Because all PC and laptop had been using the same Synaptic touchpad sensors for over a decade. And ONLY Apple had bothered to make simple and elegant gestures to navigate at the OS level. Pull up all tasks, change applications, zoom, shrink, rotate, page forward, back, move Windows. Single, double, triple and 4 finger touch commands.
What the hell had MSFT been doing with this great tech for the past 20 years? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Apple showed them how, then some very poorly executed copies started coming out (and 99% of the users disabled them because, well; they suck).
Now I have a Mac and run Parallels. I can run WinXP, Win7 Pro and Win10 on my Mac if and when I want to. My goal is to snag a Mac Pro and stick 64 Gig of DDR on it, so I can play games while emulating Win10. But with the Mac, I have it all.
I don’t like Microsoft! I don’t really hate Microsoft, but I will never buy another PC!
Then, after taking their "you gotta buy the latest Apple schlock" marching orders from the big talking Apple head on the screen, Apple's zealot followers camp out and wait in line like mind-numbed robots (just like the 1984 commercial slaves) to buy "it". Then, right on cue, 5 months later the 1984 Apple overlord tells them that the most recent Apple schlock they just bought is now obsolete because Apple has just replaced it with their latest "new and improved" iteration of Apple schlock. So the Apple lemmings camp out, wait in long lines and buy the same Apple crap all over again.
Many people strongly dislike Apple and its entire "closed proprietary business model" because Apple has become the very thing they mocked and despised in their "1984 commercial"!
Their Apple acolytes desperately need a rogue blond with a large flying hammer to destroy the big Apple talking head on the screen in order to set their blinded followers free.
It makes some people feel superior, hating on Apple. They think they stand out and intelligent for not falling for the fad
Apple was good under Steve Jobs. It sucks now under Tim Cook. Tim tinker around the edges and don’t do anything revolutionary or exciting and the newer phones look ugly as well
Apple over charges for thier products. Beyound that they’re fine.
It’s not the company, but their pretentious users that aren’t well liked.
I would like to see a Physiologist’s analysis on this “Hate” reaction to Apple.
If you don’t like Apple, don’t buy it. Simples.
The placement of that damn power button. Miss the delete key, then bam. Other laptop power buttons are usually separate from the keyboard.
Most of my battles with Apple’s numerous limitations ended many years ago when I went to Android.
So many features I wanted from my device are still not available from Apple’s lineup. Expandable memory, IR, easily replaceable battery, high quality digitizer input, HD camera and video, Bluetooth and WiFi communication with third party devices, audio line out, larger format screen, USB connectivity with thumb and hard disk drives, etc. Over the years Apple has slowly incorporated many of these features into their products, but with Android there was little or no wait.
Not saying Apple doesn’t have its strong points, but their weak points were too much for my intended use.
A good product made by suicidal coolies.
Maddox had a great article about Apple users: (warning strong language) "One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't:"
Describe the steps to change your iPhone ringtone to the first 30 seconds of "Train Kept a'Rolling"
Then tell me how user-friendly Apple products are.
Android:
Sonar Ping:
Download or select a sound file with the ping
Copy it to your Android
Select the file to be your text notification.
Train Kept a'Rollin':
Download or select a sound file with the song
Copy it to your Android
Select the file to be your ring tone.
I don’t hate apple, but I avoid it at all costs. The reason can be summed up in one word: Proprietary.
I’ve gotten so bad that it affected my wife’s phone purchase a few weeks ago. Her LG G3 died. Her company is iPhone friendly but you can use Android devices with a bit of work around. So we thought we’d finally bite the bullet and get an iPhone.
Then I remembered, you can’t change the battery. Then I remembered, you can’t use an industry standard charging/usb connection. Then I noticed, the iPhone was $500 more expensive than an LG G4 (which is what I have and really like.
So, it is more expensive, we’d suddenly have to start carrying around and purchase (at significantly higher prices) charging chords for her phone specifically. Everything is more expensive. And then there is the whole iTunes thing.
Meh. We got her the G4. She loves it.
About the computers.
I used to be a hi-fi and video salesman in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I can say with confidence that Beta was better than VHS. I had two beta VCR’s. Loved them. ‘Course, I couldn’t swap tapes with my friends because they all had VHS. And all beta machines were really expensive, so most people just bought VHS. I learned my lesson and abandoned Beta, even though I believe it to be better. Life got a lot simpler. And VHS really was “good enough” for what I had it for.
I see Apple as Beta, except it got a large enough following that it didn’t go away. But the issues remain. It’s more expensive. It is highly proprietary, and you are somewhat limited in functionality in a business world that is mostly PC.
I have a friend who is a graphic artist. He uses both Apple computers and PC’s. He likes both and is frustrated by both. He sees the apple as the winner for his graphics stuff, but prefers the PC for everything else.
Apple really lost me when they forced people into the small floppy, and again when they forced people into the CD. I haven’t followed them since then, but I’ve read some complaints here about iTunes, etc.
The funny thing is marketing. I’ve said that if you came to this planet and only knew what you saw in movies, you would have the following misconceptions:
1. a lot of our presidents were black.
2. Most people use Apple computers.
I don’t hate apple, but don’t consider it to be a good value and meet my convenience standards for the things for which I use a computer. YMMV
And yeah, it’s more the Apple geeks that get my panties in a bunch, not the products.
This is exactly it. I encountered the same attitudes and objections twenty years ago, when trying to introduce Microsoft Windows 95 (in support of vertical applications my internal customers desperately needed) into an IBM OS/2 shop.
I won't even get into how those token-ring buzzards reacted when confronted with Ethernet for the first time. :)
I prefer the iPhone, but the Mac computers are confusing to me.
