Michael Phelps gave his baby son Boomer a kiss as he added two more Olympic gold medals to his record total on Tuesday night after leading Team USA to victory in the 4x200 freestyle relay less than an hour after defeating his arch nemesis Chad Le Clos.

Phelps made up for one of the rare losses in his brilliant career by seeing off rival Le Clos to win the men's 200m butterfly - and his twentieth Olympic gold medal, which he later admitted it was 'revenge' for 2012.

'There was so much emotion and so much build up for that race,' Phelps later said of the race. 'I don't want to say it's revenge, but that's what it was.'

The most decorated Olympian in history has apparently never forgiven the South African upstart for prizing away 'his' title in the event by five hundredths of a second in London 2012.

“This is stoner boy as I recall.”

He went through rehab and found Christ, with the help of a Christian athlete friend, after his second DUI.

Townley Haas (who swam the 2nd leg of the relay) posted a split time of 1:44.14, one of the fastest splits EVER and .61 secs. faster than the second fastest split of the race posted by Britain’s James Guy. Ryan Lochte’s split in the 3rd leg was average, but at least he held on to the lead. Then Phelps, as usual, took it home on the final in another impressive performance.

That’s awesome... I was not of that caliber (swam D1, but without much success), but had the privilege to swim with a number of Olympians in the 80s/early 90s. I could not imagine what it was like for the olympians that never got their chance in 1980... trained with one of them for a while past his prime and could not bring up the subject... just didn’t feel right.

Well given he's one of the greatest Olympic champions ever, I guess that pretty much eliminates any harmful presumptions about marijuana. That was your point, right? Given that this article is about him winning his TWENTIETH gold medal? Or is there some other tiny nit you want to pick, because genuine greatness makes you compulsively expose your own jealousy and smallness?

1980 was rough.

I stopped competitive training in 1976 (still worked out but not 18 times a week). Was working and going to school. We just did not have the resources that athletics have today.

I do believe 1980 is what caused the early death of the swimmer I competed against. He medalled in 76 and I heard he went down hill after 80. Later I was told he completely let himself go (gaining over 300 lbs) and died of a heart attack.

I still think about it today. The luxury of hindsight allows me to condemn Carter. I wasn't pleased about it at the time and I know there was generally a great deal of disappointment. It was what it was. Carter was horrid. Here we are still with Afghanistan.

It hurt so many olympians because there was a higher degree of dedication. It wasn't just hours training, but the efforts required because the resources were not there. The rules were much stricter with amateur athletics and sponsorships.

We did not have the backing (financial, coaching and planning) we have today. My trip to the games was payed for by families at our local swim club and high school.

The 18 sessions of training per week does not tell the entire story. There was the driving back and forth, meets and waits for pool time. On top of that was homework and a hire academic expectation amongst swimmers and their families.

This took a tremendous toll on the athletes.

I have such admiration for high caliber athletes after parenting one his whole childhood. Skills you work for a YEAR to perfect. Talk about learning delayed gratification. Hours and hours training, never being able to eat enough as a growing child to make up for the 2500 cals expended a workout ... I drove him through the In n Out drive through after practice just for those 800 cal milkshakes. He quit before college, but that hard work has been very good for him, and his friends - half of them went through it with him, male and female. I bet they will be friends for life. We are watching one older teammate compete at these Olympics now.

If he is to truly live the Christian life he would have gotten married to his girlfriend as soon as she got pregnant, if not before that. That vulnerable little baby needs a good Christian father at home with his wife. As a “Christian,” he is setting a terrible example parading around with his “fiance and baby.”
