UPDATE: NOT A V-22 OPREY
News 5s J.B. Biunno here
We did some homework today to figure out exactly what that loud roar was Thursday night, heard across the Gulf Coast. As we originally reported below from the Mobile Airport Authority, we were told the sound came from a V-22 Osprey, a propeller-powered military aircraft.

My husband was an Military brat in Germany in the late 60’s thru the 70’s and loved seeing them take off and land. His favorite plane.
Sorry scratch that. The SR 71 is his favorite plane but the first time he saw the A-10 Warthog he said he was like what the hell is that? Lol
I don’t know would people from Mississippi to Florida hear it for 4 minutes? Anything is possible I just don’t think what their telling us is true. It was very loud and sounded low for around 4 minutes, then it began to fade. What plane can be that slow that it seems to hover for 4 minutes?
I’m going to call them.
WTF is that thing?
Old TV show that was on Fox.
I was afraid this was going to be about the Berniebots’ fart-in.
Had one let loose less than a mile from my house and it sounded like a jet fighter in full afterburner, except the sound source never moved.
A steam dump at a nuclear powerplant supposedly sounds like a 747 landing on your head.
We were told that there were 2400 different things that could trigger an emergency shutdown and steam dump, so don't panic when you hear the roar.
I know if the conditions are right, I can hear the ANG F-16’s running up their engines from 20 NB miles away.
