Ohio Woman Suing Home Builder After Her House Began ‘Melting’
KFOR ^ | JULY 22, 2016 | K. QUERRY

Judith Corrado is headed to court.

She is suing Drees Homes, one of the largest privately-owned home building companies in the country, for $25,000.

“I just thought that I should have gotten a new house that wasn’t… going to melt,” Corrado told WCPO.

In recent years, there have been reports of energy efficient windows reflecting enough light to warp a neighbor’s vinyl siding.

That’s what Corrado says is happening to her home.

“When you do your walkthrough of your brand new house they don’t say, ‘You know your siding could melt, just so you know it could melt before you buy it,’ but that was never told to me,” she said.

However, she told WCPO that the home building company knew that installing a certain window would warp siding.

“It had been mentioned directly to me that Drees had been advised not to use these materials together and they did anyway,” she said.

She claims the company’s solution was to have her neighbor’s windows replaced with frosted glass, something they did not want.

According to the lawsuit, Drees officials say the company’s obligations are listed in its warrant agreement. However, melting is not covered in the paperwork.

Even if the builder replaces the siding with a product that doesn’t melt, what a heat load on that wall!

There is a street in London that you really feel the heat on the sidewalk from the reflected sun off an all glass office building...

They have this problem with certain solar panels used in solar farms as well

All of this “green stuff” is just over priced garbage in my opinion.

Why is she just suing for 25K? She should be suing for the price of the entire house, unless homes in Ohio are selling for 25K new....

One going up near us is made of OSB. For supporting walls.

We have vinyl siding for over 30 years. We live in the country. Summers are hot, but nothing has ever melted.

That's a good thing. OSB is designed for that. In the 60's and 70's we had houses going up that didn't even have sub-structure. They were single-wall houses (meaning the outer siding was the only thing attached to the studs, there was no sub-structure like plywood or OSB, it was basically formed particle board). At least with OSB, it's there to hold load along with whatever you use as your final siding material.

I had neighbors whose siding melted.

BBQ to close to the siding.
