I carry a karambit around my neck everywhere I go...easy to use and extremely effective.

I’ve studied several martial arts over 40 years. Here’s my 2 cents:

1. if you’re gonna train, do it seriously, steadily, for a long time. A little training with a big ego can get you killed quick.

2. your best weapon is the element of surprise. learn to feign weakness until they relax for a split second then jam your fingers as deep into their eyes as you can.

3. leave asap

The way I look at it, I would rather have a person attacking me use a walking stick rather than a knife, especially a large one.

Then again, I have always had an almost irrational fear of large edged weapons in the hands of someone I do not trust.

Hand to hand against a mob is never a good idea. I prefer a tactical advantage.

4WD is definitely an advantage when negotiating piles of greasy, sweaty bodies.

Unfortunately for me, I’d the Wiley Coyote and the stupid thing would fall on me instead, and, me, with only my little itty-bitty umbrella to protect me from it.

Karate is a sport, if you’re serious about self defense, I’d highly advise something else.

When you go into an area of uncertainty, trust your gut instincts. Man has battled man for thousands of years. That gut instinct is part of survival. That instinct will normally guide you away from danger.

Do not show fear even if you are scared shi-less. Once you show fear the pack senses weakness and will attack.

If escape is possible, run like hell.

If you are in an enlightened state like my Texas, always carry anyplace it is legal. I do, and 458 foot lbs of energy from a 9mm Powerball ammo makes a very heavy statement on a bad guy. If it is a group take out the leader first.

Relative to carrying a weapon, when you are carrying it gives you a sense of confidence that potential muggers will pick up on. Look them in the eye with confidence and they will pick up the sense not to mess with you. It really is instinct. The bad guys also have instincts. They will move on to an easy target.

The best gunfight is the one that did not happen.

If it all goes to hell and you must use your weapon do not brandish it nor threaten to use it. Once you pull that weapon out the decision to use to survive should have been made. Use it until the bad guy is down.

Again I repeat, “The best gunfight is the one that does not happen.”

1. Spread your legs.

2. Bend over at the waist.

3. Raise your face and kiss your ass good-bye.

“These days I am more worried about the protests than terrorist events.”

They’re one and the same thing, that’s what the left/blm thugs intend.

1. Carry a gun; in your home make it a shotgun and have a backup.

2. Don’t go places where you have a significant likelihood of needing that gun.

3. Even if you have a gun, stay alert for anything that seems wrong.

4. Even if you have a gun, if something seems wrong, get out of there.

5. Remember that if you have to shoot, those who carry legally tend to hit about 80% of the time, while criminals hit about 14% of the time, but 14% is still a very high risk.

6. Remember that if you have to shoot, you will likely lose your firearm (possibly forever), and your freedom (possibly for days or much longer), with a risk of being stalked/targeted by thugs/terrorists in the event that you shoot someone from a favored demographic.
