As long as you don’t enter the secured areas, you can carry , no problems. DON’T EVEN try to carry in the secured areas. You will spend the convention time in the local jail.
No weapons beyond a certain point.
Do not carry a firearm at all and just try to blend in and take pictures. Don’t end up as some sort of tool of liberals to vilify gun owners, or make us look bad.
If you are carrying, join the motorcycle group out front
and do not enter the convention hall.Watch the convention on the projection outside.
You may be needed on the line.
That’s a mighty early sign up date

For what looks like a troll post.
As long as it is legal, I would pack my Kimber 1911 SIS Ultra 3”. The most common question at the Convention would probably be...Hey man, what’cha packin?
Take a long rifle. Maybe six. With good high powered scopes. Then just climb the nearest cell phone tower or book depository, etc., and use the scoped rifles to pinpoint possible Pulitzer prize winning photo ops.
Dress up like a clown with a Hillary Clinton mask. No one will bother you.
I wouldn’t do anything with the Secret Service around. Their calling is just too specific to get in the way of.
Just in case...
The escort would meet me on the way out and I would discreetly re-arm at that point.
It is all moot. I am not going anyway. Best of luck for those who do.
If you are schooled in photography (self schooled, formal schooling, etc) and have the right professional grade equipment, and the desire to chronicle history, yes, go.
Leave the firearms at home and hire the biggest, meanest friend you have that can take a punch and dish it out as well.
If you are concentrating on the scene or shot, you will have tunnel vision and will look like a target to the thugs, It is hard enough to watch your back and look through a viewfinder.
In the end it will be cheaper and safer to have some muscle with you, and you won’t have problems getting close (but not inside the secured areas) to those shots you want.
As mentioned above, if you are going into a situation where you think you need a gun, should you really put yourself in that situation?
It’s always better to have your handgun and not need it than vice versa.
If you have to leave it in the car, just use a cable lock through the trigger guard to secure it to something stout in the trunk.
Good luck, thanks in advance for repping us, and please share when you get back.
I’m just next door in IN but unless my daughter (who just started a new job) can care for my disabled spouse I may not be able to go.
Disappointing, all the discouraging words on this thread. Take your gun.
Long gun not a good idea for such venues. Open carry also might cause problems among certain “peaceful protesters” milling through the crowds. I would conceal carry and be extra polite to hecklers and others that posed no physical threat. Situational awareness - go into physical hunting mode where senses are as tuned as you can make them.
Attending the RNC as an Observer and a Concealed Carry Permit Holder
Maybe you can wing a RINO.... : )
