If you were to attend the RNC for the purpose of photographing/videoing this historic event, how would you go about it? Specifically, would you carry a concealed handgun under the shirt? What about an openly carried handgun in a shoulder holster with extra mags? Would you carry a long rifle? Would you not carry a firearm at all and just try to blend in and take pictures? Would you just not attend due to the volatile nature of this election season?
As long as you don’t enter the secured areas, you can carry , no problems. DON’T EVEN try to carry in the secured areas. You will spend the convention time in the local jail.
No weapons beyond a certain point.
That sounds like being “inside the wire”. who are they allowing into the secured area? anybody that isn’t armed or only specific people with a need to be in the secured area?
Do not carry a firearm at all and just try to blend in and take pictures. Don’t end up as some sort of tool of liberals to vilify gun owners, or make us look bad.
Is it only VIPs beyond that point?
If you are carrying, join the motorcycle group out front
and do not enter the convention hall.Watch the convention on the projection outside.
You may be needed on the line.
FN FAL or Glock 20?
Check the gun laws, abide by the laws, and go. Should be historical. Great speakers on the list.
That’s a mighty early sign up date

For what looks like a troll post.
I wouldn’t carry. Not that day.
It’s not a matter of fear or cowardice - it’s a combination of the following:
1. There are tons of police there and people who you can fall to to protect you. Just like you, as a CCW holder - you are there to protect those around you.
2. If violence or a shooting were to (god forbid) occur you will make the jobs of the police a touch harder. When there is gunfire it’s not a matter of prejudice that the police would need to detain you - it’s a matter of common sense and necessity.
3. As a photographer (And professional or not.. just a guy with a camera) your position in this matter is CRUCIALLY important. You are more important than one of the armed security guards. You and your camera, should trouble arise, are literally the only thing that will choose between political theater and justice being served. They tell news cameramen and war journalists this all the time. The soldiers are there to shoot on your behalf - just keep the damned camera rolling and get footage out of there. That is your one job.
So on this day, I would not carry.
As long as it is legal, I would pack my Kimber 1911 SIS Ultra 3”. The most common question at the Convention would probably be...Hey man, what’cha packin?
are you kidding me? a troll post? I’m talking about risking life and limb to represent here and you call me a troll? you better rethink that. an apology might be nice as well.
Take a long rifle. Maybe six. With good high powered scopes. Then just climb the nearest cell phone tower or book depository, etc., and use the scoped rifles to pinpoint possible Pulitzer prize winning photo ops.
Take them both.
That’s where I’m leaning. I think you’re right. I may leave a gun in the car just in case even though I’m normally very much against that.
that’s inside the convention itself. I doubt I’ll end up in there. I’m leaning on going unarmed at this point and just taking extra cameras.
aren’t you helpful.
Only people with documents and advanced security permits will be permitted to enter secured areas.
Delegates, alternates, pre-approved guests, dignitaries, elected officials, convention speakers, pre-approved volunteers, security staff and pre-approved media are the only ones permitted into the secure areas.
