Florida Woman Falls to Her Death at Grand Canyon Hours After Posting Photo of Herself on Cliff Edge

Colleen Burns, 35, of Orlando, was hiking with friends near the South Kaibab Trail on Friday when she accidentally slipped off an edge at Ooh Aah Point, Grand Canyon National Park official tells PEOPLE.

Park rangers located her body about 400 feet below where she was standing.

One friend who was with Burns on the trail described her final moments to WESH.

"She was just, like, stepping out of the way for another gentleman to, kind of, squeeze in," Jessica Roman told the station. "Unfortunately, Colleen just kind of got tripped up on her own feet and fell backwards. She fell into the canyon."

When is the Govt going to get serious about Foot Control. The Constitution only discusses the right to keep Arms.

There’s a book store, restaurant, shuttle buses, all kinds of stuff there.

I prefer Bryce Canyon and Zion Nat’l Park, though. Much more picturesque. The canyon road in Zion is something else, too.

That's terrible. But was it just a selfie photo, or was she live streaming it? Just morbid curiosity I guess.

People from Florida don't really have any place higher than second floor anywhere around them, aside from a couple of bird-covered landfills located scenically beside the turnpike. Being on the edge of Grand Canyon must have been pretty disorienting for this victim. I don't personally think I could get anywhere near it without freaking out.

If the government would just take everyones feet, accidents like this would never happen.

He would probably be alive today but cigarettes not falling off a job site, did him in. The crane funeral was pretty cool though he went way up high in the sky and down in the hole. RIP

Yeah, my eyes don't stray far from the road when I'm driving through Zion. As I'm sure you know, that can be a challenge, the surroundings are so awesome.

Oh I love those glass elevators. USED to go downtown just to ride them!Glass elevators are the last thing you have to fear in downtown New Orleans. That said- flatlanders and cliffs are a bad mix. Too many people confuse reality and fantasy and fear nothing. Horrible way to go.

I was at the Grand Canyon recently and there are signs warning people not to walk backwards. You can easily do this trying to get more of something into a picture. Hopefully the signs would remind anyone considering taking that one fatal step to stop.

The South Rim has a village with a paved walkway bounded by a low wall. If you stay on the land side of that wall, there is no chance of going over into the canyon. Everywhere else is dangerous, but spectacular. Definitely one of the top natural wonders of the world.

The book store on the rim of the canyon has a book on people killed in the canyon. It is a dangerous place if one is not careful.

The book is called Over the Edge-Death in the Grand Canyon. I was right in the middle of reading it when I saw this story. Lots and lots of falls at the canyon. The book is available from Amazon.
