I have no photos, but want to say I’m sorry to learn of Swampsniper’s passing. I loved his pics and commentary as well; I hope I told him so.

thank you for the lovely photos. I look forward to each time you post. Just had and experience with a Bewick’s Wren building a nest in a flower pot on our covered porch. She worked really hard, laid three little eggs and was so faithful in sitting on the nest. We altered our lifestyle to accommodate her! One egg hatched and we were able to watch the little one grow and then she taught it how to fly. It was a great experience.
I didn’t realize we lost Swampsniper. RIP photographer FRiend.
When they first started the program a bunch of years ago, the chicks that were raised would migrate south in the fall but fail to return the following year.
I had no idea that Swampsniper passed away. God Bless him.

That would be pretty cool! I can only imagine how sweet that would be! I haven’t ever tried to hand feed any bird, but I hear you can get a few others to eat from your hand as well. Maybe the bird feed store mentioned chickadees or tufted titmice?
P.S. Is that you feeding them? The ones here are so territorial, they scoot each other away when another shows up at the feeder, although we have 4 on different sides of our home. You’d think they would be happy to share.
It worked b/c I had a *relationship* with the hummies; I could get them fly around me, w/out being spooked off.
We would play *catch* by shining a laser dot on the wall...and gradually, over time, they weren't threatened by me. Started with some nectar in a red cola-cola cap ... it took some time, but *monkey-see-monkey-do*. they even allowed their rivals to join in. It's quite magical, really.
