True. But don’t we prostrate toward the object of veneration?
That guy is pointing himself toward something outside, away from the Holy Sepulchre, which would presumably be located beneath the raised spire or turret-like portion.
"ONE!""Uh, three, Sire.""TWO!"
"FIVE!"
"Right! THREE!!"And there was much rejoicing.
Perhaps for the same reason we visit our loved ones in cemeteries. We know that the thing that made them them is no longer on this Earth, but it lets us feel close to them.
I don't know if my physical condition will let me, but I'd go in a minute.
Classic.
“Zooming way in, he has a design on his shirt that might be a red cross on a white shield.”
if that’s the case, it’s the flag of England, with the Cross of St. George on a white background.

But they’re not there either. I understand as a contact thing but Christians believe what the Apostle Paul wrote that to be absent from the body is to be with the Lord. We are nothing but vessels containing who we are and when the vessel breaks it’s put into the ground and the essence of what we were is no longer there. It’s just like a glass holding water; we’re like the water in that vessel. The vessel breaks and the water leaves but it’s still water. We are still who we are but no longer contained in the vessel we know as our bodies.
Last I checked, Jesus spent 3 days in a tomb hewn out of stone, like a cave, then he resurrected.
Where did this ornate structure come from? I don’t recall reading about it in Scripture.
Every new testament site in Jerusalem has a church built over it.
But where is any proof that this is his tomb? Remember, he was executed as a common criminal. Joseph of Arimathea gave him his tomb, freshly hewn to fulfill prophecy. Is Josephs body and that of his family in this tomb?
these sites weren’t just picked at random. they were pilgrimage sites going all the way back to the time of Jesus. at some point, the faithful started building churches so that these sites would be forever known.
your question is like asking how we know where the Appian Way is. the answer is that the Appian Way stayed in use from ancient times until now. even if parts of it were paved over, Romans know exactly where it is/was because Romans have a continuous history with it.
Thank you
I believe the ornate structure did not exist at the time of the crucifixion, but was built later around the cave site.
In the last 1600 years or so, only in the last 150 years was it considered important to preserve archaeological finds as they were, especially religious archaeological finds. Even such finds as "the True Cross" we're routinely chopped up into much smaller parts to send to a myriad churches so each of them could have a piece of it. Other pieces would be given to high officials of governments as souvenirs by the popes and other church officials who wanted favors from their governments. It's a wonder that the Shroud of Turin wasn't cut to pieces and sent all over. Some pieces were taken from it, but its private ownership essentially prevented it from that happening during the period of such practices.
That ornate structure was built on top of the original tomb found by Emperor Constantine's mother around 400AD, if that was the right one in the first place. It may actually be the Garden Tomb which doesn't have any ornate medieval construction built anywhere near it.
Remember that the Moslems copied the ritual of proskynesis from the Syriac and Nestorian Christians
Well we still have Independence Hall in Philadelphia as a reminder of when this country fought for its freedom. We need that reminder of Jesus having risen from the dead.
Will Jerry Rivers broadcast on Faux News a repeat of Al Capone’s famous secret room opening?
I read up last night this wonderful article via the Washington Post online. One of the few good articles from that news source.
We shall need...
the holy bolt holder! The holiest of all holy bolt holders!
(well done btw)
Just asking but why do you need a reminder that our Savior has risen when we know He has? Well perhaps since we do look to an empty Cross as a reminder then an empty tomb should be as well. But as the angel said to the women: “Why do you weep, for He is not here?”
Nah. No rug.
