I realize you are likely posting an emotional response to the insanity of blaming firearms by the typical suspects. However, we can’t have it both ways. Either everyone enjoys the freedoms for firearms or nobody does. It’s not a plot by government - it’s the law.
It’s a difficult situation, but I think support of radical Islam should be taken into account on a background check. If it were up to me we would consider the expulsion of all who subscribe to such beliefs, but this is a dangerous idea. I have to admit it’s very dangerous. The argument could be made that some on the left might say the same about FReepers, Christians, conservatives, etc. It would all come down to who was in power and the very limits of such power and authority over the individual is what allowed this lunatic to purchase firearms.
We can’t have it both ways. To blame the laws protecting our freedoms and those who enforce the law for such a thing is a dangerous slope. Blaming government for such things only leads to more government and more laws - that is the only tool our politicians seem to have.
Consider - when crazy people can’t buy guns the real power lies with whomever determines what crazy means....
Just pointing out a thought we should all keep in mind as we process what just happened (again).

The FBI is in a can’t win position. They are tasked to monitor such people who might be threats, but they are powerless to act until the target commits an actual crime. Attending a radical mosque or posting radical ideas online is not a crime. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
With that said, it’s time for a national conversation about what is and isn’t compatible with our culture and society. I think we are about to start that conversation in this campaign because one of the candidates is anything but politically correct. I don’t know that much will change because the nation is already so polarized over such issues, but at least it may factor the opposite school of thought into policy and law.

Yes, they routinely allow Muslims to commit atrocities against women and gays, just as they allow black males to commit atrocities against women. Essentially, women and to a lesser extent, gays, are the human sacrifices the dems allow to hold their coalition together.
