The FBI is in a can’t win position. They are tasked to monitor such people who might be threats, but they are powerless to act until the target commits an actual crime. Attending a radical mosque or posting radical ideas online is not a crime. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
With that said, it’s time for a national conversation about what is and isn’t compatible with our culture and society. I think we are about to start that conversation in this campaign because one of the candidates is anything but politically correct. I don’t know that much will change because the nation is already so polarized over such issues, but at least it may factor the opposite school of thought into policy and law.
