The Royal Navy was, quite recently, one of the world’s leading fleets. But that was before several rounds of deep budget cuts, the most recent in 2010, that compelled the senior service to officially decommission some of its best ships. The escort force arguably suffered the most, declining to a modern low of just 13 Type 23 frigates and six new Type 45 destroyers. And now the escort force has shrunk even further.

When you spend a tax dollar on a kid in the Navy, you are teaching that kid some valuable life skills. The kid learns to get up in the morning. The kid learns to clean himself up and be presentable. The kid learns to follow instructions. The kid learns to obey rules and laws. The kid learns what it takes to advance. The kid learns about being part of a team. The kid learns about setting and achieving goals. The kid learns the importance of training and education. The kid learns about sacrificing for the good of the crew.

The kid learns to be a good person and a good citizen.

Now, when you spend a dollar on welfare what do you get? What lessons are you teaching? Have more kids? Don’t try to achieve? Education and training aren’t important? Hard work doesn’t pay off? Do whatever you want? Kill anyone that ticks you off? Ignore reality by using drugs to escape.

The kid learns to be a Democrat.

What are you talking about? The UK has two kinds of immigrants:

1. FRom the EU - Poles, Germans, Italians, Frenchies all looking for work and working hard
2. From the erstwhile commonwealth - this is decreasing as it gets increasingly harder to get a UK passport. The first generation are also very hard-working and contribute to the nation. In the second generation you have Pakis who tend to be more criminal, while other immigrant groups are better educated and put money into the system
